7 NORTHEAST BARKLEY. Mrs. Tom Tanner called on Mrs. Bud Lewis Tuesday. Ed Walker made a business trip to Francesville Friday. Mrs. Wm. Kennedy visited with Mrs. Ed Oliver Wednesday. S. R. Nichols of Rensselaer was out buying cattleCof Ed Oliver Tuesday. Mrs. Ed Walken and daughters Ethel made a trip to Rensselaer Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Callahan made a business trip to Rensselaer Thursday. Everett Walker and Floyd Towcalled on Claude Bowman Sunday evening. Mrs. Aaron Vore visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Lewis, Sunday afternoon. The barn on the Tom Eastburn farm will be completed by the middle of next week. Newt Bowman and son Claude, having done the work.
LEE. Grandma Zable has been sick since last Frida}' with stomach trouble. Whortleberries are a slim crop here this year, but there is going to be lots of blackberries. Miss Lural Anderson, Miss Myrtle Lew’is and the three Mellender boys took dinner Sunday at J. H. Culp’s. Joe and Creighton Clark and Charles Lefler and families were at T. P. Jacks’ Wednesday, cutting rye. Charles Jacks moved his family from Rensselaer Wednesday to the Mrs. Dodd property, which he bought of Wesley Noland. Hoy Rishling bought a new hay rack of the hardware man last week, and several new mowers have went out. There seems to be quite a crop of timothy this season. Mrs. Dodd died Thursday at 9:30 a. m., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will Stiers, at this place. At this writing no arrangements for the funeral have been made. We had a big rain both Sunday and Monday which made the harvest fields too soft for cutting the grain, and much of the corn has been laid by on account of the wet erWesley Noland is getting along very well with his new house. It is a square structure with a porch in front with the floor of which is made of cement. It will add to the looks of the property.
BURXSTOWN. Hurrah for the little green hat C. G. , Uncle James Lewis still remains very feeble. Chris Morgenegg was a Rensselaer goer Saturday. Herbert Eib was in Rensselaer Monday on business. Michael Burns attended church at Rensselaer Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hurley were In Rensselaer Saturday. Mrs. Samuel Holmes is slowly improving from her recent sickness. Miss Katie Arnold got badly burned Tuesday* night while lighting a gasoline stove. Corn plowing Is a thing of the past here. Wheat cutting is progressing nicely. Winifred Pullins left Monday for Startksburg, Miss., where he will spend the summer. Mrs. Chris Morgenegg and daughter, Mrs. Lester Shrlener were Rensselaer goers Wednesday. William Hefferline Is painting the Burn’s schoolhouse and woodhouse this week. Mrs. John Scott returned home Thursday after spending a few days with Mrs- Samuel Holmes. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Daugherty and family visited with Mr. and Mrs. A. Elb and family Sunday. Misses Alice and Jennie Elb left Monday for Winona Lake where they will spend the rest of the summer in school. Possum Run and Alx had a very 4nterestlng game of ball Sunday. Seore 22 to 2 In favor of the former. The same teams will play Sunday at Alx. Mrs. Lester Shrlener and children of Sheridan, TH., arrived here Thursday for an extended visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Morgenegg. and other relatives. Carl Gorbet took Misses Stella and Lillie Brown to the Children's day exercises Sunday. I wonder

Misses Ida, Clara and Deva Hurley spent Sunday with Mrs. Mary Sheffer. ' Mrs. Dennis Brook and children spent Monday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hurley. Say, Mr. Blankenbaker, you want to hold fast to that little key for there is a time coming when you will need it.
FAIR OAKS. Weathhr is fine and health still remains good here. Jake Spitzer will return to Davenport, lowa, this week. Mrs. J. c. Thompson was at the hub on business Tuesday. Mrs. A. M. Bringle transacted business in Rensselaer Friday. The prospect for a fine pickle crop is good in these parts at present. C. L. Eggleston is having his store room treated to a new coat of paint. One of Jack Umfrees little girls is sick with something like scarlet fever. . Mrs. Ed Kesler was up to the Kankakee river Saturday taking pictures. Miss Neva Carder of Laurel has been visiting friends and relatives here since the 4 th. Miss Edith Moffitt went to Wheatfield Tuesday to visit her aunt, Mrs. Byres, a few* days. Dr. Fyfe and wife of Wheatfield visited from Saturday until Monday at the Cottingham home.
\\ alter McConnell has a large force of men cutting, pressing and caring hay nowadays at this place. There was a large crowd from here who attended the dance at Virgie Saturday night, it is reported. James Clifton is painting a house tor a Mr. Thompson in the country, about six miles west of here. Grandpa Spry left here Monday for North Dakota to visit his son, William, for an indefinite time. Mrs. F. E. Husted, who has been at Logansport for about a year has been visiting home folks here since the 4th. Little Tom Moore went to St. John the first of the week to work tor his father as water boy on the extra gang. The cottage prayer meeting was held at Grandma Keener’s Wednesday evening. There was a very goo crowd out. Rev. Dunkleburg of Lowell delivered a very interesting sermon to a fair sized audience Saturday evening at the Christian church. We wish to correct an error in our last week’s report which stated that Dr. Washburn had been called to see Mrs. Erwin. We were wrongly informed as it was their regular family physician and not Washburn. It is reported that the foreman on Lawler's ranch, near here, told his hands that they would have to work through the haying for $1 a day and board or quit. So the most of them quit. They will probably get hands from Chicago to do their work. F. M. Goff, the pickle foreman, has loaded and shipped away two carloads of pickles. He is, at this writing, preparing to put up a wiftdmill for the purpose of pumping water to keep the pickle tanks filled.
It is said they will build a reservoir and force the water into it and use a hose to carry the water from it into the different tanks. This will be a great labor saver./ Bruce Moffitt left here Monday for his home in Dakota after about three weeks of looking after his dredge business at McCoysburg. His son Clayton and Ed Kesler went to McCoysburg Monday to begin work again, but returned Tuesday. The reason for this, it is reported, the ditch superintendent and the commissioners have made no arrangements to pay for what has been done and will not do anythig before about the first or middle of September.
LANESBOROUGH. Wanted: Good weather. Haying will begin in earnest the latter part of the week. Farmers were busy cutting wheat and rye last week, but about all is cut now. . Misses Elizabeth and Rose Lane took dinner with Miss Rose Miller north of town Sunday. Miss Kathryn Lane will come home tomorrow from near Rensselaer where she has been visiting her sister, Mrs. H. Messman. Miss Elizabeth, Rose and Stanlej' Lane attended the party given by Miss Goldie Gunydn of Parr Saturday evening. Miss Agnes and Harry Thomas were also in attendance to the party of Miss Goldie Gunyon Saturday evening. A good time was reported.
FARMERS’ RETREAT. Amiel Schrqder buzzed wood Monday. George Salrin was a Medaryville goer Monday. Mrs. Susie Moritz is very sick at the present writing. Felix Moritz made a business trip to Wheatfield Saturday. Mr. Hixon was seen driving on our streets Wednesday. Dollie and Paul Hershman were Medaryville goers Thursday. Bob Zick took a load of new potatoes to Medaryville Monday. Amiel Schrader .and son Alfred called on George Dunn Sunday. James Smith of Wheatfield took dinner with Felix Moritz Sunday. Mr. Merrill, of down south, called on several of our neighbors Wednesday. Amiel Schrader and family and Mr. Moritz and family called on Thos. Callaghan and family Sunday evening. Mrs. Frank Hershman and son Obal visited with the former’s daughter, Miss Florence, of Valparaiso this w*eek. Mr. Hiedenblut wishes those lades who were out chasing huckleberries Friday, to fix the fence they tore down, as his cow gets out and causes him lots of trouble. Mr- and Mrs. Wm. Stalbaum and sons X incent and Paul spent Saturday at Will's father’s, and on Sunday went fishing in the Kankakee river. Is fishing any better than huckleberrying, Julia? EGYPT. Mort Ritchey is on the sick list. Wilbur Bowers was. a Rensselaer goer Saturday night. Ben and Lewis Welsh were out to the farm last Friday.
