STATUE OF ANTHONY WAYNE

H. M. Williams, Civil War Veteran, to Build One at Fort WayneFort Wayne, Ind., June 29.—Henry M. Williams, a veteran of the civil war. and a man of wealth, announces that he will build a statue of Anthony Wayne at the east end of Berry street overlooking Maumee. It was at this spot, he says, that General Wayne announced his purpose to locate the fort from which the city derived its name. According to Williams, it was the failure of General St. Clair and General Harmer to hold the juncture of the St. Mary and the St. Joseph rivers against the Indians that determined President Washington to appoint General Wayne to perform the work.
