COLLEGEVILLE HAPPENINGS.
The second English class has just finished the reading of Evangeline, that most pathetic story of British cruelty and uitter disregard for family ties, and American kindness. The third and fourth act of Richelieu are now receiving their proper attention in daily practice. The great interest shown by the actors certainly predicts a great success. To the graduates this has been the most serious week of their college career. The last of their examinations will be held on Saturday; the winners of degrees and diplomas will soon be announced. The work at the church is steadily progressing. The carpenters are at present constructing the large interior scaffold, and they will be ready to raise the roof next week. The late heavy rains have caused them not a little annoyance. The heavy granite door sills for the front entrances arrived from Vermont a few days since. They were nearly two months in search of their peaceful college home till they finally found it. The bulky stone that is to be used in the construction of the main steps has also been delivered. The workmen are busy the foundation of the flag staff. Tt will be a solid block of concrete ten feet in diameter and ten feet deep. The staff will be located in the southeast corner of the north campus, directly in front of the gymnasium. The height of the staff is one hundred feet, a lofty resting place for the Stars and Stripes with Its protecting folds over the S. J. C. penant.
