The Western Motor Co., of Logansport, in which concern Robert Parker, the failed Remington banker, had considerable stock, has filed notice with the secretary of state of an increase of its capital stock from $250,000 to $400,000.
Jesse Nowels of Laurens, lowa, came Tuesday evening for a few days visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Nowels, returning home yesterday. He says crop prospects in his section of lowa are good, and that they are as far advanced as here. The relatives and friends of Miss Florence Jacks were greatly disappointed at her not coming home from Chicago Wednesday as was expected; the doctor having decided that she had best remain a few days longer. Her sister Mary, who has been with her the past four weeks, came home Tuesday evening. The Rensselaer Wrens with several new birds in the line-up will make their third public appearance under the guiding hand of Lou Harmon at the Riverside Athletic park Sunday in an exhibition of the national pastime with our neighbors of Brook. A new battery has been imported and the infield strengthened, which will probably mean a real ball game. ’ J. R. Laidlaw of Chicago, representative of the Samuel Bingham’s Son Manufacturing Co., while here on business for his firm, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Rhoades at dinner Wednesday. Mr. Laidlaw’s son, who resides in Cincinnati, is a brother-in-law of the husband of Mr. and Mrs. Rhoades’ daughter, Lillian Rhoades Radcliff of Cincinnati. The damage was only about $lO or sls, and J. C. Porter, in whose agency it was insured, adjusted the loss at once. '
G. A. Piatt of Silver City, lowa, dropped oft here Wednesday evening while on his way home from a visit at his old home near Shelbyville, to visit the grave of his mother and sister, who, are buried In Barkley township. Mr. Piatt is a son of N. 8. Platt, who lived in this county a few years in the early seventies, leaving here for Shelby county in ’7B and a few years later moving west. They lived a few years in Kansas and Nebraska, later moving to lowa where they now reside. George Babcock will go to Indianapolis to-day to attend the annual commencement of the Winona Technical Institute, from which he completed the liotype course last July. Owing to an accident in getting his hand caught in one of the linotypes and being unable to attend school for a few weeks as a result, he did not graduate with the regular class last year, and his name appears in the list of this year’s graduates. He will also attend the alumni banquet to-night at the Grand Hotel.
