SOUTH NEWTON. Mrs. Lettie Clifton returned to Fair Oaks Thursday. Earl Leek and wife were Rensselaer goers Saturday. Miss Alice Holder Is working for Harry Dewey at present. Earl Leek and wife attended the ball game in Mt. Ayr Sunday. parry Dewey and Fred Waling were Rensselaer goers Tuesday. Arthur *Mayhew and family broke bread with Ernest Mayhew Sunday. Mrs. Alice Potts helped Mrs. Roberts paper another room last Friday. Nelse Hough and son Warner hauled hay from Kosta’s Wednesday. - Miss Bessie Paulus called pn Ernest Mayhew and wife Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Mary Powell spent Saturday night with her son, Arthur and family. Joseph Charles spent Saturday night with his friend, Warner Hough. Mr. Noland of Lee passed through this vicinity Thursday en route for Fair Oaks. Litle Robert Mayhew, who has been quite sick, is improving at this writing. Warner Hough and Joseph Charles were Rensselaer goers Sunday evening. Frank Storey, who is working near Beaver City, called on Earl Leek Sunday. Mrs. Ernest Mayhew called on Mrs. Don and Mrs. Philip Paulus Tuesday morning. Mrs. Alice Potts visited with her sister, Mrs. Fred Markin Saturday night and Sunday. We had quite a nice little rain in this vicinity Tuesday. The corn and oats look fine. Mesdames Arthur and Ernest Mayhew spent last Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Philip Paulus. The telephone lineman of Mt. Ayr vas out in this vicinity Wednesday repairing the 29 Mines. )Mrs. Silas Potts and son Albert and Arthur Powell and family called on Fred Waling’s Sunday. A paper hanger from Rensselaer came out Saturday and papered two rooms for Miss Chas. Weiss. Earl Leek has been hauling corn to Julian. Corn seems to be a pretty good price in this vicinity. Chas. Weiss had some men of near Rensselaer to put lightening rods on his barn one day last week. John Weiss, Sr.*, and wife and John Weiss, Jr., of Goodland spent Sunday with the former’s son, C. R. called on the Paulus family Monday morning. Miss Nancy Carr started Thursday for Spokane, Wash., for a two months visit with her neice, Mrs. Cena Arnott. Mr. and Mrs. Paulus and son Russell took Sunday dinner with their daughter, Mrs. James Reed of near Surrey. Mrs. Jane Whitsel is keeping house for the Carr Bros., while their sister, Miss Nancy is away visiting in Washington state. Mr. and Mrs. Nelse Hough and son Warner, Wm. Chidster and Joseph Charles took Sunday dinner with Wm. Hough and wife. Say, Warner, the next time you talk in your sleep be careful of what you say, or we will find out quite a numbeer of interesting things. Mr. and Mrs. Mar Besse spent Sunday afternoon with Harry Dewey and family. Harry and Mar also attended the ball game over, on the Hill ranch. Lime Raymond and family of Jordan tp., took a spin in their fine new auto last Friday afternoon and came over to visit their daughter, Mrs. Harvey Pierson. Charles Weiss and a party of men from Remington started Monday lon a trip to Aberdeen, South Dakota, to look at the country and also to buy land if it is suitable to their taste. Mrs. Arthur Powell and children and Mrs. Fred Waling and son Charles went to Monon Wednesday morning to visit a few days with their sister, Mrs. Fred Powell and family. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grant and the latter’s father, Henry Shipman, visited with Alton Grant and family Sunday. Mr. Shipman remained until Monday and returned home in the afternoon. Chris Weiss and son Ernest, Mrs. Carrie Frieze and children of Chica--go came Sunday to visit a few days with their brother Charles Weiss and family. From there they will go to Goodland to visit another brother and also their parents.

MeCOYSBURG. John Montz was In Monon Monday. Mrs. Montz and son Clarence were in Monon Saturday. Clayton Moflßtt was in Chicago on business Saturday. Ed Peregrine and son ckvinder

were in Rensselaer Saturday. Mr. Montz and son Clarence were in Monon on business Wednesday. Mrs. Ed Kesler of Fair Oaks was In McCoysburg taking pictures Thursday. Mrs. R. V. Johns spent Tuesday and Wednesday with her son Robert at Lafayette. > Mr. and Mrs. Reed McCoy and Miss Myrtle Lewis were Rensselaer shoppers Wednesday. Born, May 24, to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Porter' of east of town, a son, their first child. Mrs. Johns of South America spent a few days visiting her son, R. V. Johns, last week. Florence Bussel came Monday for a few days visit with her brother, R. L. Bussel and family. Mrs. Ed Kesler of Fair Oaks returned home Saturday after taking 15 dozen, pictures In this town. Mr. Infield came from Lafayette Monday and is having some of the buildings repaired on his farm here. The Moffitt dredge is now completed and will be digging by the time this reaches The Democrat readers. The Commercial Club of McCoysburg had their pictures taken Friday. Anybody wishing to see them can call at the secretary’s office on Main street and he will be glad to show them to you. • McCoysburg ball teams had qufte an exciting time Sunday. The spuds beat the first team, the Regulars, to the tune of 8 to 6. All did fair playing. About 200 In attendance. There is another big game scheduled for next Sunday May 30. Let everybody come out and see our boys play, and if we can’t beat them with the Regulars, the Spuds can.

PLEASANT RIDGE. Seth Reed is visiting with his aunt, Mrs. J. Pierson. Mr. and Mrs. C. Hildebrand were in Rensselaer Wednesday. Everett Myers is visiting with his sister, Mrs. J. Pierson. Mrs. Jane Lowman visited Monday with her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Moore. Mrs. Stella Kenton called on Mrs. A. S. Lowman Tuesday afternoon. Carl and Pearl Parker of Chicago visited Saturday night with F. Kenton’s. Mr. and Mrs. John Reed visited with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reed Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kenton called on Mr. and Mrs. W. Eldridge Sunday. Geo. Lowman of Amboy, Ind., is here visiting with his brothers for a short time. Ercil Pierson returned home Sunday from a two weeks visit with his grandparents near Parr. Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Pierson gpant Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Cnas. Reed near Parr. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Potts and Miss Nellie Rush spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Alf Lowman. The Rensselaer “Spuds” failed to get here Sunday, therefore there wasn’t any ball game, but there was quite a crowd anyway.

LEE. Ed Grass of Francesville visited Miss Ethel Lewis Sunday. Mr. Shultz’s brother and family of Monon, visited them Sunday. J. H. Culp and family visited Mrs. Holeman Sunday after church. Delena Lefler is spending a few days with her grandparents, T. P. Jacks'. . ». Grandpa Williamson’s son-in-law of Hamilton county visited them a few days the past week. S. M. Jacks and wife and Oscar and Alvin Clark and wife visited Sunday at Will Rishling’s after church. Wesley Noland has torn down the west room of his house and is going to build a four room house, on the property he recently bought of Wm. Gray. A young lady by the name of Miss Schlegelmllch of Montlcello, was here Sunday and gave an address in the church pulpit. She is preparing herself for a missionary and expects to go to Japan in a short time Children’s day will be observed here June 20th, in an all day's exercise. It was set for the 13th of June, but was postponed on account of the children’s day at the Monon chapel on the 13 th. The Lee orchestra are going to play at Chapel and then their music teacher, Mr. Young, will be with them here on the 20th as June.
