MORE BUYERS THAN AUTOS.
Would-be Purchasers Have Great Difficulty In Getting Them. Wm. Washburn and John Marlatt, who went to Chicago Tuesday with Chas. Chamberlain and W. D. Bringle on automobile business, got little satisfaction there as to when they would get their cars, Mr. Washburn the Cadillac he ordered last fall, and Mr. Marlatt some Ford touring cars he has sold about here, so they went on to Detroit and Cadillac, Mich. Mr. Washburn will be able to get his car in two or three weeks now, we un4erstand, but John don’t know when he will get to fill his orders. Billy Bringle, who bought a fine Buick touring car some two months ago and was to have it within a very few weeks, got no satisfaction at all and it will be two months or more, it is said, before he will get his machine. Babcock & Hopkins, who sell the E. M. F., brought down a fine combination car from South Bend Saturday, and expect to get another touring car in the next couple of weeks. These cars are now manufactured at Detroit for the Studebaker company, but September 1, the Studebakers take over the entire plant and the output will likely be greatly increasd. Bui two of these cars have been sold here as yet, but they are a mighty nice smooth running machine, apparently of good substantial construction, and many more could be sold this season were it possible to get them. In price they are about the same as the Buick, 11,250 for the senger touring car, 80-horse power, all complete with top, lamps, and all up-to-date accessorlei. The Manufacturer* of all the popular makes of machines are
away behind on orders and there Is no let up in the demand. The whole country, it seems, has gone crazy over automobiles, and the undertaking business promises to continue good for an indefinite time. The Ford people, it is said, are turning out 100 autos every working day, while the Buick factory puts one out every six minutes. The E. M. F., people are now turning out 35 each day, and their Kansas City agency alone has sold 1,000 this season. The price is not likely to be any lower so long as this great demand continues.
