Breed and Milk Poultice. ▲ bread and milk poultice usually is used to draw a boil or pimple to a head, and because it is so effective it is well to know how to make one. Put a tablespoonful of the crumbs of stale bread into one gill of milk and put this on the stove, letting it come to a boil. Then put this on a bandage of clean, soft old clot;h and apply it to the sore. Another way of making a bread and milk poultice is to take stale breadcrumbs and pour over them hot milk. 801 l until the crumbs are soft, take from the fire and gradually stir In a little sweet oil or glycerin. A bread and milk poultice Is better for drawing a splinter out of the hand or finger than anything else. It most cases it will draw the splinter out in half an hour or so.

Corn Pone. Sift together one quart sweet meal, one teaspoonful salt, two teaspoonfuls sugar. Add one pint scalding hot milk and beat well. Sift together one heaping pint flour, and two te?ispoonfuls baking powder and stir into the batter together with the beaten yolks of two eggs. Beat hard. Fold in the stiffly beaten whites of the eggs, turn into a long, shallow tin pan and bake in a hot oven. This is a famous Kentucky recipe. The Virginia rule calls for one quart buttermilk; two teaspoonfuls soda, one quart cornmeal and one pint of flour. Bake for three hours In a stone crock.

Cornmeal Mush. For old fashioned cornmeal mush, the best cereal, according to many persons, bring three pints of water to a boil, add a level tablespoonful of salt and then sift in with one hand, little by little, stirring all the time with the other, a cupful of meal. Boil for ten minutes. Then turn into the upper part of a double boiler and cook for at least three hours; more will not hurt it Serve the mush hot or cold, with rich cream or with maple sirup. Cold and sliced. It is delicious fried in bacon fat and eaten with maple sirup.

Hooks For the Wardrobe. Householders are continually at a loss to find sufficient space in ward robes and closets in which to hang their garments. Generally this is not because the closet is not large enough, but simply because the garment books are not arranged economically. An Ohio Inventor has devised an excellent

arrangement of the hooks, as shown in the accompanying illustration. Instead of placing each hook in singly he arranges five in a row, each hook directly behind the other. All five are cast from a single piece of metal and are readily secured to the top of the wardrobe. These hooks thus make it possible to utilize every possible bit of space in the wardrobe.

How to Select Fish. Fish to be enjoyed must be fresh, and for this reason the housewife should know how to choose a good fish. In the first place the flesh must be so firm that it will not be dented by pressure with the fingers. The eyes must be full, the scales bright and the fins stiff. The gills should be bright in color, being neither dark liver color nor too pale. If there is no odor the fish may be eaten with safety.

Cherry Cake. Beat a quarter of a pound of butter with a quarter of a pound of sugar to a cream. Then gradually add three well beaten eggs, one and a quarter cupfuls of flour, a quarter of a pint of milk, a teaspoonful of baking powder, a little grated lemon rind and three ounces of candled cherries. Pour intc a buttered and papered tin and bake tn moderate oven for an hour and a half

Baked Raisin Pudding. Take a quarter of a pound of stoned raisins, a quarter of a pound of chopped suet and half a pound of flour, add a pinch of salt and a teaspoonful of baking powder and work all into a light batter with an egg and some milk. Pour into a greased pie dish nnd bake in a moderate oven for an hour' and a quarter.

Remedy For Boil*. An excellent remedy for boll* Is water of a temperature that is agreeable to the patient. Apply wet linen to the affected part and frequently moisten it over again. This is said to be the most effective remedy known for the cure of bolls. In connection with it a good blood purifier should be taken.

Croutons For Soup. To make croutons to serve with soups, cut bread in slices one-half Inch thick, trim the crusts and cut in squares. If to be browned in the oven, butter lightly before cutting in put on a baking sheet, dry throughout and brown delicately. These are more Clgestible than when fried.
