THRIVED IN PENITENTIARY
Veteran Now 71 Years Old Is Hale and Hearty and Has Money. Fort Madison, la., May 14. —James R. Saunders was released from the penitentiary here by pardon. He served thirty-one years for the alleged murder of a fourteen-year-old girl. Saunders now is hale and hearty. He is seventy-one years old. He was a sharp-shooter in an Ohio regiment in the civil war and was granted a soldier’s pension since his incarceration, during which time he saved SI,BOO.
