DECLARES GOD KILLED ANNIS
Melodramatic Declaration by the Lawyer For Captain Hains. Flushing, N. Y„ May 11. —In the case Of Captain Peter C. Hains, Jr., charged with the murder of William E. Annis. Justice Garretson announced that he
would allow George A. Gregg just an hour in which to complete his remarks for the prosecution today. In strong contrast to the grief of his parents wss the attitude of the defendant. Except when his lawyer, John F. Mclntyre forcefully tqok hold of him and asked the jury to study him as the living evidence of an insane man, Captain Hains displayed neither emotion nor interest in the proceedings. When grasped by Mclntyre he turned toward him with a vague look of surprise and resentment, but quickly lapsed into his former listless attitude. One of Mclntyre’s melodramatic declarations was that Annis met death by “an act of Gpd.” •
GENERAL P. C. HAINS.
