Cory’s Monday and attended the burial of the former's mother who died in Chicago and was laid to rest in the Goodland cemetery Tuesday. LEE. Lora Culp has a badly sprained ankle. Miss Ethel Lewis is home now from her work. Mr. Mellender’s visited Sunday at Mr. Miller’s, north of Lee. Bert Lewis, went Friday evening to Ash Grove few days. Miss Lurfcl Anderson visited with Miss Verda Lewis last Sunday. Mrs. Ann Rishling went to Monon Monday evening, returning Tuesday morning. Alvin Clark and family and Elmer Gilmore took dinner Sunday at J. H. Culp’s. A car load of tile was unloaded here this week for the Horton & Mosley farm. Mr. and Mrs. Shultz went to Monon Saturday evening and visited his brother till Monday morning. Mrs. George Culp went Sunday morning, to her parents, John Osborne’s of near Rensselaer, and returned in the evening. Friday evening of last week Cassie and Flossie Holeman came to visit their grandmother, Mrs. Holeman, till Sunday afternoon. Sunday was the election of officers at the Sunday School: Superintendent, H. C. Anderson; Secretary, Miss Vena LaMar; Organist, Miss Lora Culp; Treasurer, Tommy Clark.

There being only two bidders there and the Torbet brothers were the lowest. Watson Humes bought the old fence and Andy Ropp got the contract for cleaning off the brush.

Silas Toombs and Jud Zook have moved their sawmill to Adam Flesher’s farm and have begun to saw the lumber for the fine large barn to be erected there this summer. Those that attended the surprise supper Friday night, (it being in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reese’s nineteenth wedding anniversary) were: Mr. and Mrs. T. M. MT. AYR. (From The Pilot.) The new tennis court east of the bank is almost completed and has been in use for several days. Hiram Ashby and family spent last Saturday and Sunday with friends and at Brook. Mrs. W. A. Shindler was reportedto be quite sick for several days the latter part of last week and the first part of this. Mrs. Lizzie Hilliard of Wheatfield came yesterday for a visit at the home of Mr. Huntington, east of town. Miss Maude Noland of Lee, Ind., came Monday for a short visit with her brother, Rev. D. E. Noland, and family. Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Nay visited with relatives and friends at Indianapolis the latter part of last week and the first of this. J. B. Ashby is having a new well made at his residence in the west part of town. H. H. Watson of Rensselaer is doing the work. Mrs. Geo. Hopkins has been confined for the past week with a serious attack of rheumatism, but this week, was said to be some better. The change in the operators at the central office took place last Saturday; Miss Mary Johnson now being the day girl and Miss Nellie Harris the night girl.
Wilbur Hart, who has been living in Rensselaer for the past several months, has moved to his father’s farm northwest <pf here where he will farm this year. A happy wedding occurred last Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jenkinson in the northwest part of town, the contracting parties being Mr. George Jenkinson and Miss Nellie Dilts. The ceremony was performed by Rev. D. E. Noland of the M. E. church, immediately after which was served the wedding dinner. About thirty friends and relatives were present and a very enjoyable time was reported. Music and other .amusements were a feature of the occasion. Weapon With Hilt of Gold In Hands of Treasury Agents. New York, May 7. —A finely wrought sword, with a hilt of solid gold, alleged to have been brought here as a gift for President Taft, was one of several hundred Oriental art objects seized by special treasury agents. The two P.ussians who brought the sword ashore said it was a present from “rpany Russian friends,” and was to have been presented to president by an 6fficlal of the Rut-sirn embassy. ,
