Hotaling visited in Lafayette a few days last week. Mrs. Miner of Rigdon, Ind„ is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Johnson. I. D. Lucky visited his daughter, Mrs. M. B. Graham at Windfall, last week. - Bert Haekley and E. Williams have gone to Aberdeen, So. Dak., to work this summer. Lex Fisher lias sold his property on Ohio street to w 1. Thomas. Consideration $1,300. Emmet O’Connor and Frank Lucas have gone to lowa, where they will find work this summer. A hopie talent play is to be given here in the near future for the benefit of the Remington band. Mrs. A. Beasley and little son visited in Goodland last Thursday with her brother, Dr. Jesse Bond and family. Mrs. W. H. Rich and Miss Mary Detrlck visited with the former’s sons, Walter and Bert, at Kankakee, 111., last week. Mrs. 11. E. Sheetz and daughter of Indianapolis are visiting her brothers, B. F. and Had Spencer here at present writing. Alvin Dunn of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, came here one day last week with the remains of his two-months-old baby and the same were buried in the Catholic cemetery. Uncle Ethan A. Bartoo celebrated his eightieth birthday anniversary April 12th, and quite a number of relatives were present and partook of the big family dinner that was served. Miss Carrie Lewis is now office girl for Dr. fiesser, Miss Mary Rousch, who has held the position for several years, having resigned to take a position with the Remington state bank. M. A. and C. E. Gray, Bert Cowglll and J. G. Tharp attended the funeral of John A. Martin at Fowler last Friday. Mr. Martin was a member of the local lodge of Odd Fellows. Kentland Democrat: Miss Clara Schmidt of Remington was the guest of Mlbb Mary Fayne the first of the week.... Sister Theodora of Remington was the guest of the Sisters teaching the parochial schools here, from Sunday evening until Monday noon.

The large stock barn belonging to Lawrence Brow, in Hickory Grove township, Benton county was destroyed by fire one night last week. Seven head of horses were burned and another burned so bad that it was killed. Several head of sheep were also burned, besides sixty-five tons of hay and corn and oats, which amounted to several hundred bushel. Frank Payne called on Arthur Ropp and family Sunday. There is a good prospect for a peach crop in this vicinity. Minnie and Nena Ritter visited with Francie Davisson Sunday. Arthur Ropp is doing some clearing for Henry Hayes this week. Will Smith visited with his brother Theodore near GifTord Sunday. Grant Davisson is getting his new implement house about completed. Will Smith Is building a residence for 1 rank Lakln in Union township this week. John Williams and John Garriott spent Saturday and Saturday night ip Rensselaer. The warm showery weather of the past few days is bringing up the oats and grass nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Davisson and son Kenneth visited at the home of Grant Davisson Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Garriott visited at the home of their son Roscoe and family Sunday. James Britt was doing some trading about Gifford Tuesday and brought home a fine horße.
Will Smith says that when he gets his steam automobile fixed up he will run one hundred miles an hour. .Carrie Garriott attended Sunday school at Brushwood Sunday morning and called on Lillie Hurley in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Andy Ropp and family and Mr. and Mrs. Will Williams called on Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ropp Sunday afternoon. The Jasper county Telephone Company was taking a large number of their phones off their lines in this vicinity Wednesday, only two patrons being left on its 526 line. James Wiseman brought suit against Herbert Garriott, before Squire Comer Wednesday. E. P. Honan of Rensselaer was attorney for Mr. Garriott and won the case. Word was received here Saturday from Henry Hayes, stating that he was getting along nicely on his trip out to his homestead, and Lad traveled one-fourth of the distance. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Davisson and daughter Francie and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Davisson and, son Kenneth and Jess Walker spent Saturday evening with Mr. and Mrs. John Clouse. Newman Snow who has been sick the past five months, di d Friday at the home of his son Theodore. Rev. Clark of Rensselaer preached the funeral which was held at the Brushwood church Sunday afternoon. Interment was made in the Sandridge cemetery.

Earl Osborn and Harry and Gale Brown rode the Odd Fellows’ goat here last meeting night. Simon Fendig was out Thursday Staking the enumeration and also I the census of the town. Mrs. Elsie Mason returned from Otis Friday shere she has been i visiting her uncle, Ed Hibbs. Ira Melser returned from Medaryville Thursday, where he has been I visiting a week with relatives. Arthur Tuteur and Malcom Clark of Rensselaer were among old friends from Friday till Monday. Otto and Don Mills of Marion, are visiting with relatives and looking after a farm near here which they intend to rent. Miss Lottie O’Connor moved her millinery stock from Kniman Wednesday into the store building south of the postoffice. Miss Laura Jensen, who is attending school at Valpo, came home Friday for a visit with home folks and her many friends. Jim McColly of Virgie was here the first of the week. He has contracted for the putting of a large glass front in the Anderson store building.« The C. I. & S., reports an increase of 1500 loaded cars the first nine days of this month over tfite same period a year ago. There is also a large increase in passenger traffic. The “Wheatfleld Regulars” organized Sunday. James Anderson, captain; Homer Turner, manager. Sevetal of last year’s players have dropped out. A game was started Supday with the pick-ups but was interupted by the rain and heavy hall storm. Be optomistic. Try and look on the bright side of life. Don’t think because today has been full of pain and disappointments that tomorrow may be a duplicate of It. The world likes to see a man cheerful. Even a cheerful liar is tolerated when the gloomy pessimist is shunned.
