Lowell, Ind., Feb. 27.—Jesse Mershon; an employe of the Gifford railroad, who has worked hard to buy a farm in one of the Dakotas, had bis hopes dashed to pieces yesterday. He had saved up *51,600 and tucked it away in some secluded place for safekeeping, and while counting his roll yesterday he found that in some mysterious manner some bills had been extracted, leaving him only a balance of S2OO. Mershon’s. suspicions rested on a man by the name of William Baskl, and he immediately came to Lowell and had a search warrant issued, i and accompanied by City Marshal Belshaw went to the boarding car where Baskl was, and after searching every nook and corner o r the car failed to find anything. There is no other clue to . the thief, and it is probable that Mershon has lost $1,400.
