SLAVEHOLDING IN INDIANA
Isaac Jenkinson Reads Paper on the Subject. Richmond, Ind.. March 2.—At a meeting of the Wayne County Historical society, Isaac Jenkinson, the veteran journalist, read a paper on "Slavery in Indiana." The paper was the product of a historical research with reference to the attitude of many communities in Indiana on the questton of slavery prior to 1850. Jenkinson sought to show that there was a considerable number of negroes held as staves in various parts of the Territory of Indiana up to the time of its admission into statehood, and even after that time until 1860 there was some slaveholding.
