V The Newton circuit court convenes next Monday. f/ —oTwelve marriage licenses were Issued last month, against 10 for the month previous, and 12 for February 1908. Ex-Sheriff O’Connor w r as down from Kniman yesterday on business. He has been limping about for the past week with a cane, the result of a soreness in the calf of the right leg, but what has caused it he does not know. —O . Marriage licenses Issued: Feb. ?7, Ernest Prouty of Jasper county, ion of Tilman Prouty of Newton tounty, aged 20 years, occupation farmer, to Leona Dunlap, daughter bf James Dunlap of Mt. Ayr, aged 18, occupation housekeepr. First fnarriage for each. Little was done except to allow Claims by the county commissioners Monday. Yesterday some ditch matters were being heard and it was expected to finish up the work of the term. A complete report of the proceedings will be given in Saturday’s Democrat. Not much of anything has been doing in the circuit court for the past few days, and will not be for the rest of the term. Yesterday afternoon the hearing on the injunction asked for by Wm. E. Moore to enjoin collection 'of assessments in the Wuerthner ditch in Newton tp., came up. o ■ ■ The Benton and Jasper county commissioners met in joint session Monday to appoint viewers on the Beek’s gravel road on the county line between the two counties, Luther Perigo and Sylvester Gray were appointed and will go over the proposed road at the same time they view the Guipe road which is really but an extension of this one. —Fowler Republican. —o — New suits filed. No. 7416. Harvey J. Dexter and ohn Werner vs. C. H. Sternberg & Sons; action for damages. This action is brought to recover alleged damages to a small triangular tract of land owned by plaintiff’s along the Iroquois river, south of WJeston cemetery, on which it is alleged a number of fruit trees and shrubs are growing, and that while putting through the dredge defendants constructed a dam in the old bed of the river, said trees and shrubs were torn up and destroyed; that the value of such property destroyed was $l5O. No. 7417. C. & E. I. R. R„ vs. Robt. A. Mannan, suit. Grover Smith ditch; action to enjoin collection of assessments against plaintiff which are alleged to ‘have been wrongfully made, and to enjoin contractors from entering upon the right-of-way of plaintiff and digging said ditch thereon.
