MINISTER TAKES ACTION Packers Decide Not to Employ Men From Shores of Mediterranean —Report That Sheriff Is Considering a Step Which Would Bring Into Court the Speakers at Mass Meeting Which Preceded the Scenes of Violence—Orator Declares He Sought to Calm the Crowd. " x "'y„ Omaha, Neb., Feb. 23.—Although V recurrence of the rioting in South Omaha is not looked for, the feeling against the Greeks there is still very strong. As a precautionary measure three companies of the national guard slept “under arms” in Omaha hotels and will be kept within immedate call today. Former City Attorney H. C. Murphy, who presided at the mass meeting which preceded the trouble, declared that his efforts were rather to calm than to inflame the passions of his hearers. Sheriff Brailey is said to be considering the arrest of the speakers on the charge of inciting a riot. It is declared that suits aggregating about $25,000 will be filed against the town of South Omaha by those whose property was destroyed. The announcement is made that the packing companies of South Omaha will hereafter refuse to employ Greeks. No Greeks offered to return to’work at the packing houses, if, indeed, there are any left in South Omaha.
