DOLLAR-A-DAY PENSION

Bill Which C. G. Conn’s Association Wishes Passed. Elkhart. Ind.. Feb. 19.—The Ex-Sol-diers and Ex-Sailors’ association of Elkhart, of which Colonel C. G. Conn Is president, has sent a circular to each surviving veteran of the Mexican war or of the Union army tn the civil war. The circular points out that with such a pension the soldiers’ homes might be dispensed with, adding: “Wefurther believe the bill to be the most just bill yet devised. The increase in pensions as a whole can be overcome, as the Hon. J. G. Cannon has stated that it costs $7.56 a week to maintain each individual inmate at the, soldiers’ home. Thus It 4ould cost sls a week for a comrade and his wife, or S6O a month, or $720 a year, while under this bill the comrade and his wife could live at home at a cost of $365 a year, a saving to our government of $365 annually.”
