PLAINT OF A RAILROAD MAN.
[A letter received by Mr. and Mrs. j Isaac Davis of Barkley township, from their son. Conductor Davis.] If you were a boy, who lived away, And from mother, and home you had to stay; | And could not get them to write to you, ,It would make a lad feel rather blue; 1 And then at last, away from your wife, •To spend the greater part of your life; [On a west end local, on the C. H. & D., ; That is the position I am in, you see. This is to brothers and sisters, and all, j Supposing' between the cars I’d fall; Far away among strangers, and all alone ‘ And a note in my pocket, to take me home. !So if you will write to me often, you | see, I will naturally think you cared for me; i Now all of you think how hard it would | be, ' If I were you, and you had to be me. I , . j And when yon see one train, then | another; |Go home and write to your railroad brother; j For if he gets a nice large letter. IHe can get over the snow-topped cars lots better, i Then, when this tale and life is o’er, jSt. Peter will open wdde his door; iWe will all get aboard this heavenly train, j All coupled together, like the heavenly I chain. >-v The railroad man, will be treated white. , And won t have to work both day and night; Never later than the hour of seven, And will be classed with mankind up in heaven. Your loving brother, BUD.
