FOR THE CHILDREN Odd, but Convenient. Hare is n unique way of telling on what day of tlie week each month begins in any year but a leap year. All you have to know is on what day of the week the 3'ear began and the words of the following couplet: At Dover dwelt George Brown, Esquire. Good Christopher French and David Friar. There are twelve words iu these lines, one for each month of the year. To Illustrate the method take the month of May of the year 1903, which was not a leap year. May is the fifth month. Recite the words until you come to the fifth, which Is Brown, and that, you see. begins with B, the second letter of the alphabet. Now. ns 1903 began on Thursday, you count that one and Friday two; therefore May, 1903, began on Friday. As another illustration take the ninth month, September. The ninth word In the couplet is French, the first letter of which is the sixth letter of the alphabet. Counting from Thursday, as before, because on that day the year began, the sixth day is Tuesday, on which day the month of September began.—Chicago News.
