STATE DEFEATS THE RAILROADS
Law Increasing Dross Earnings Tai Is Upheld. St Paul, Dec. 25. —The state won a double victory in the supreme court when Justice C. L. Brown filed opinions in its favor in both the Chicago Great Western and Great Northern railway tax cases. The court upholds the law increasing the railroad gross earnings tax from 3 to 1 per cent, which the roads attacked as unconstitutional. Attorney General E T. Young fought the contention that the companies could not he made to pay more than the 3 per cent provided in their territorial charter The Great N.
