Mr. and Mrs. Ed Irwin of Wolcott spent ’ Sunday with relatives here Mrs. William Barkley is slowly recovering from a very severe sick-, ness. Ben Smith is out again and at work. Ben is a hard one to keep in the house. ' W. A. Forbes who moved to East Chicago some two years ago, has come back to Rensselaer and will clerk for Boyd Porter. Will Yeiter of northeast Barkley brought in 19 bushels of nice large yellow peaches Monday and sold them to the Home Grocery. Prof. E. S. Tollman underwent a very successful operation for appendicitis Monday morning at the Frances Willard hospital in Chicago. P. Ryan was in town Friday, and was feeling first rate, which may be accounted for partly from the fact that he was born on St. Patrick’s day 1861. White & Hickman took the merry-go-round people over to Francesville Sunday in their auto. The dpst was something awful, but then a dust remover did the work. yOind now one of the fnost reliable farmers in this county says that stock hogs can be bought in any number at $5 per hundred pounds, with the prospect of them going still lower. /\George Cox was up from IndianapoHs Friday to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Cox. He reports work plenty at Indianapolis, but the fellows down there don’t seem to find it so. Hon. Sam W* Small, the noted evangelist and temperance worker* will speak at Francesville, Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Francesville Stteet Fair, from a democratic standpoint. Stephens has bought the Vest end of the old Porter farm across the river from the tile factory, 13 acres in all. The consideration is stated in the deed as having been $1,400. A band concert will be given Thursday evening, the last one of the season. This is given by the band hs a compliment and is not for pay, the pay concerts ending with that of last week. Chase Ritchey made a flying trip' here Saturday, from Yukon, Okla., returning to Chicago Sunday where he will be a few days before he returns to Oklahoma, where he and Mrs. Ritchey will teach this winter. Morocco Courier: Mr. H. C. Harris has sold t,wo sections of his land formerly of the Gaff ranch to Joseph and Oscar Gates, of Anderson, Ind., the consideration was a good healthy one being an even $128,000. John has become blooded since going to Arizona The sack containing .the S7OO .worth of diamonds was found the sidewalk near the Chicago Bargain store and returned to John who was happy once more. • ~ Jerome and John Andrus went to Big Rapids, Mich., Monday, Jerome to look after land and John to visit the scenes of his childhood, and probobly some of his girl friends. They will be gone a week and will visit Ypsilanti, Jackson, Hart and Saline, a town near they were born. - jQlob Wartena was up town for the firm time Saturday since the terrible burning he got on the drill boat on August 20. He had to be brought down in a carriage, but could be on his feet after he got down among the boys.
