, REMINGTON, Trustee Fell and J. M. Ott were Rensselaer goers Monday. Miss Opal Ward of Monon visited Miss Loretta O’Connor last week. Miss Clara Treanor attended the millinery opening at Indianapolis last week. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Capes of Jennings county are visiting relatives here at present. Come out to the special election Thursday, Mr. Farmer, and don’t let the election go by default. Miss Evalyn O’Connor, who had been visiting in Chicago for a few days returned home last Tuesday. The special election Thursday will be held in our three precincts as follows: South, Remington hotel sample room; East, town hall; West, W. E. Hotallng’s residence. Recent births: Sept. 5, to Fred Banes and wife, a son; Sept. 8, to Ed Lucas and wife of Fowler, a daughter. Mrs. Lucas was formerly Miss Pearl Brooks of Remington. Little Genevieve Burger, who had been seriously sick at the home of her grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hemphill, in town for several weeks with a complication of diseases, has so far recovered that she was removed to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burger, west of town, a few days ago.
Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Dye, Mr. and Mrs. Will Ott. Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Lock and son, Mr. and Mrs? Albert Dodge, Mrs. Jake Hensler, Mrs. John Teter, Chas. Bonaer, Frank Jordan, Frank Holser, Mr. and Mrs. John Forrey, H. W. Milner and daughter Della and son Harry, Miss Bessie York, Mrs. Abe Wahl and W. C. Hallihan were among those from Remington and vicinity who attended the State Fair and visited friends and relatives in Indiana i»oils last week. - ---- - ■ —■ ■ - '—— f It is very important that the voters come out Thursday and vote for State Senator. If they are against machine politics, such as is worked in Jasper county, if they are in favor of having an up-to-date, intelligent farmer represent them, against whom the breath of scandal or suspicion has never been raised, whose honesty and integrity is above reproach, rather than “another lawyer,” a machine politician, who for the past twelve or fifteen years has held onto the public teat in this county like a leech, carried through by the big republican majority and not because the people of his party wanted him. they should vote for Mr. Law’, the democratic candidate. Rich Bros, of Goodland have traded their grain elevator at New Waverly for a farm near Flora, Carroll county.
EAST JORDAN. Ed Moore was a Rensselaer goer Friday. Edwin Hast}' was .hauling rock Monday. Monroe Lane cut his buckwheat Thursday. Ethel Flemming called on Edna Dewey Tuesday. John Weast went to Illinois Monday on business. Joe and Tomy Neisus hauled lumber for their brother Friday. John Robinson helped Mr. Scott make fence one day last .week. Mrs. George Luers and eldest son were Rensselaer goers Wednesday. Miss Hasty of Illinois is visiting her brothers Eugene and Ed at this writing. George Timmons was at Mart Somers' the first of the week caring for a sick horse.
PINE GROVE. (Too late for last week.) Mrs. Wm. George spent Sunday with Mrs. Andy Ropp. Miss Bertha Cooper was the guest of Miss Verna Shroyer Sunday. Miss Stella Nuss spent Tuesday afternoon with Misses Maggie and Chloae Torbet. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Zimmerman spent Sunday with Mrs. Sarah McCleary and family. Mr. and Mrs. George Daniels were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jordan of near Newland Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Daniels spent Sunday with the former’s brother, Lon Daniels and wife of Gifford. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Daniels and daughter Pearl called on Mr. and Mrs. James Torbet Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. George Beedy and family of Newland and Mrs. Stevens of Hershell, HI., took dinner with James Torbet and family Monday. Newton Jenkins and Bluford Torbet went to Boone county Thursday where they visit relatives and friends and then went to Indianapolis to the State fair. Mr. and Mrs. Cratie Cragen and daughter of near Lebanon, and Mrs. John Dale ant? son of near Darlington, returned home Tuesday after a week’s visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Torbet.
IROQUOIS VALLEY.
Edward McElfresh is on the sick list. All be ready to attend school the 21st of September. Wm. Green called on Isaac Walker Thursday morning. Farmers are all busy putting in wheat or stacking clover. Mrs. Barney Kolhoff called on Mrs. Geo. McElfresh Wednesday.
Richard Shirer is attending high school at Rensselaer this year. Mrs. Hinkle from Michigan is visiting Miss Sarah Smith this week. Mrs. Flora Pullins and children called on her mother Thursday eve. Emmet Pullins returned from the Indiana State fair Thursday evening. Mrs. Emmet Pullins and children have returned from their visit at Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Green and daughter Lulu called on Isaac Saidla’s Sunday. Mrs. Vida Reese Is helping Mrs Charles Pullins make apple butter this week. Bessie McElfresh spent the homecoming week at Rensselaer with her grandparents. The county councilmen met this week. Our friend, L. P. Shirer, being one to attend. Canning peaches is the order of the day now. Won’t the peach pies be good this winter? Mr. and Mrs. Everett Green and family called on his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Green Tuesday. Mrs. Joe Jackson and daughter Gladys from Hoopeston, 111., is visiting in our vicinity now. W. N. Jenkins is having a good time now. He drove 65 miles in one day. Say, I tell you “Old Bess’’ is a stepper. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Morgenegg and family of West Barkley, and Chris Morgenegg and daughter of Yorktown, 111., called on George McElfresh and family Monday evening.
BLUE SEA. C. Underwood was in Monon Saturday. Walter Britton is visiting George Williams. Henry Beaver was in this vicinity Thursday. John Mitchell is in Remington this week on business. Mr. Beaver called on C. Under* wood Monday afternoon. Chas. Wood spent Wednesday evening with Roy Williams. Mrs. C. Underwood spent Friday afternoon with Miss Vesta Beaver. C. Underwood and wife spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. McDonald. Grandma Foulks and Mrs. Richard Foulks were in Monon Wednesday. Gene Marchon bought quite a lot of shoats in this vicinity Wednesday. Rev. Mrs. Belcher preached at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon. Frank Coghill and wife called on C. Underwood and wife Sunday afternoon. Mr. Boone made a trip to the south part of the state after a bunch of sheep. Mrs. Sam Rogers accompanied Sister Belcher over to church Sunday afternoon. Miss Elsie Beaver spent Friday afternoon with her sister, Mrs. Dump Hamilton. We wonder if Monon wiM hold a carnival this year. Everyone would enjoy a good carnival. Mr. and Mrs. James Spencer spent Tuesday evening with Grandma Foulks and C. Underwood and wife. The Otto-go-bill got stuck on the hill Friday evening and the driver had to walk home and send another after it. A good many from this vicinity went fishing Friday. But the fish were so large they couldn't pull them out so they had to come home without any. Mrs. Chatman and daughter, Pearle, Mrs. Elmer Johnson and Mrs. Thomas Johnson spent Wednesday evening with R. Foulks and wife and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams. See the new novelty dress goods, mattings, lineoliums, etc., at the Chicago Bargain Store.
HARVEST FESTIVAL.
There will be a harvest festival at John Reed’s % mile north of Virgie, on what is known as the Sears place, on Tuesday, September 29. Everybody cordially invited. Program as follows: Prise of SI.OO for the best ten ears of corn. For Second best ten ears, 50c. Tug-of-war, prize, 50c. Fat Man’s race; first, $1.00; second, 50c. Potato race, first, $1.00; second. 50c. Wheel-barrow race, first, 50; second. 25c. Young Ladies' race, first, 50c; second, 25c. A free for all race, first, SI.OO. There will be lunch and refreshments on the ground and a dance at night. Everybody invited.
