Jasper County Democrat, Volume 11, Number 29, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 12 September 1908 — Clean the Seed. [ARTICLE]
Clean the Seed.
While speaking of keeping the farm clean and free from -eds do not overlook the thorough cleaning of all kinds of seed grains which are sown. It does not pay to tight weeds year after year and at the same time in the millet, wheat, oats and rye sow weed seeds In addition to those already on the land. The easiest way to eliminate weeds from the field is not to sow them and., to keep the seed off the ground., A good fanning mill and just a little time will clean up the seed and save lots of time and horsepower. Protect the Water Supply. ThlsMs the dry month when streams and springs lessen and sometimes fall altogether. If dependence Is had upon water holes, see to it that the stock are not allowed to tramp in them, and on no account allow them to drink from foul pools. Need of Culture. While liberal fertilizatioii will increase the yield, thorough cultivation la also necessary to keep up and improve the quality.
