Jasper County Democrat, Volume 11, Number 29, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 8 August 1908 — ROSS THARP MARRIED. [ARTICLE]
ROSS THARP MARRIED.
Ross Tharp, formerly of Rensselaer, was married at the home of hiß brother Glenn Tharp, at Goodland last week to Miss Ethel Flynt of Chandler, Okla., after a romantic elopement. They became acquainted in Chandler some time ago, the girl’s father, Wm. Flynt, being a retired farmer residing there. There was objections from her parents to their marriage, but after Ross returned to Fowler, Ind., and was running an electric theater, the girl came to him and an attempt was made to secure a marriage license at Fowler, but the clerk refused to issue it because the bride to be was a non-resident. Later he received a dispatch from the girl’s father not to issue them a license, and stating that he was on his way to Fowler to stop the marriage. The young couple, however, hied themselves to Kentland, secured a license and were made one before papa arrived on the scene. The latter returned to Chandler alone while the young folks will reside in Goodland, where the groom has secured employment in the electric light plant. Competition prices on groceries can not be compared with car load and case lot prices at the Chicago Bargain Store.
