Items Picked Up About the County Capitol. Co. Supt. Lamson went to Winona Wednesday for a few days stay. New suits filed: No. 7347. Frgnk Foltz and Charles G. Spltler vs.' Seth B. Moffitt; suit on note and account. Demand 1281.45. ■T Marriage licenses issued: August 6, Ernest Shaffer Tillman of Rensselaer, aged 25, occupation teacher, to Bessie Lee King, also of Rensselaer, aged 23, occupation librarian. First marriage for each. At the meeting of the county board of education Monday it was decided to open the townships schools as follows: Sept. 14. —Carpenter, Gillam, Hanging Grove, Jordan, Marion, Milroy, Newton, Kankakee, Keener, Walker, Wheatfleld, and the town of Wheatfleld. • Sept. 21.—Barkley and Union. The Rensselaer and Remington schools will open September 7th, we understand.
Joe Bennett came down in hla auto Wednesday from Lowell, making the trip In about two hours. He and Jdhn Marlatt will now begin the big Job of distributing the notices in the extention of the Iroquois improvement to every person interested In this ditch, except those living in Newton bounty and in Newton, Jordan ajid Marion townships in this county who were notified by Carey Carr, and that means threefourths of the people in this county. He has been employed by» the petitioners to do this.
The county commissioners completed the work of the term Tuesday and adjourned. Following is a report of Tuesday’s proceedings, Monday’s having been published in Wednesday issue. The list of claims allowed appear in another column: Joseph Nissius ditch; claim dismissed for want of jurisdiction. Micah R. Halstead, petition for highway; John R. Wilson, A. A. Fell and Charles Hensler appointed viewers, to meet at auditor’s office and qualify Aug. 31, and report at Sept, term.
J. L. Babcock et al, petition for ditch; prayer of petition granted and superintendent ordered to make report as prayed for on or before Sept, term.
Samuel E. Sparling petition for ditch; demurer sustained to remonstrance of Eiglesbach; D. W. Waymire being related to petitioner, is disqualified and on objection of college and Eiglesbach board appoint W. F. Osborne as engineer, and W. V. Porter and Harvey Wood, Sr., as commissioners, to meet and qualify Aug. 10, and report Sept. term. Bonds ordered in Charles T. Otis ditch.
Emil Besser ditch; no objections on file, referred to M. B. Price, engineer, and Albert J. Bellows appointed instead of D. W. Waymire, he not having time. John Frey appointed third commissioner, to meet Aug. 20.
Contract for coal awarded to Shirley Hill Coal Co., on bid heretofore published. Notice ordered given for receiving bids for new bridges in Keener, Hanging Grove and Jordan tps. Margaret Lewis ditch; ordered established as per amended report. D. W. Waymire appointed superintendent.
