IROQUOIS VALLEY. . (Too late for last week.) Oats cutting is here 4iow. We are having nice weather at last. Mrs. Wm ; A. Green is again on the sick list. Vilas Price spent Sunday with Newt Jenkins. Newt Jenkins was a Rensselaer goer Sunday evening. Mrs. Mollie Vance did shopping in Rensselaer Tuesday. Bertha Holmes and Lily Brown were in our vicinity Sunday. Cyrel Steel and family called on L. P. Shirer and family Sunday. George McElfresh sold Jake Eigelsbach some fat cattle last week. John Marlatt and visitors took a ride in the little red wagon Sunday. ' Billie Wenrick and his father spent Monday night at Wm. Green’s. Miss Pearl McConehay of Rensselaer visited at Wm. Green’s Thursday. Joe Bennett and Cyrpl Steel are helping John Marlatt make hay this week. Barney Kolhoff and family spent Sunday with his brother south of town. Several young people attended the band concert last Thursday night Mr. Stevens and Floyd Meyers of Rensselaer are helping L. P. Shirer put up hay. Wm. Shirer of Valparaiso visited his brother L. P. Shirer Saturday and Sunday. Lincoln Jenkins and Ben Price called on Wm. Jenkins last Saturday evening. Noah Wenrick and son George were guests of Wm. A. Green and family Sunday. Mrs. George McElfresh and son Alpha and Edward were Rensselaer goers Saturday. Barney Kolhoff’s dance was well attended Saturday night. Everyone reports a good time. Grandpa Richardson is again seen in our vicinity. He Is enjoying good health for his age. - Mr. and Mrs. Barney Kolhoff and family were guests of Geo. McElfresh and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Morgenegg and children called on Geo. McElfresh and family Sunday. Mrs. Geo. McElfresh and daughter Bessie and son Edward, did shopping In Rensselaer Tuesday. The Misses Lucy and Katie Morgenegg attended the birthday party in honor of Bertha Daniels Sunday. Fronle Vance of Rensselaer visited Wm. Green and family Saturday night and Sunday. She attended the barn dance at Barney Kolhoff’s Saturday night. Several lads from this locality attended the serenade at Charley Walker’s Monday night and as a result Newt Jenkins has a badly bruised shoulder caused from a gun kick. Charlie Saltts and Geo. McElfresh are the champion bee tree hunters. They found a bee tree Monday and cut It, finding it was a double bee tree, having two swarms in separate limbs. Good old Madame Rumor says there will be a wedding In our locality in the near future. How about it, L— and M—? Oh, well, we will get the cow bells and guns ready. Alpha McElfresh and Geo. Kolhoff sold ice cream and lemonade Saturday night at the dance, making |2.25 in all, besides having a good many lemons and a lot of sugar left over. A good trade, boys.

Mrs. Philip Paulus and son Russell visited the former’s daughter Mrs. Jas. Reed Tuesday. Several persons from this vicinity attended the party given by R. J. Yeoman’s Friday evening. Misses Sadie and Bessie Paulus visited with Mr. H. T. Feldhaus and family Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Ernest Mayhew went to stay a few days with her home folks Mr. and Mrs. Marshall of near Brook. Some of the farmers In this vicinity are cutting oats and some of them are still busy putting up hay. Harry Dewey, Frank Shipman and William Jacobs made a business trip to Rensselaer Tuesday evening. Carrie Waling called on Mabie Gyer Tuesday afternoon, who is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dewey. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Ducharme attended the picnic over near Egypt Sunday. It was given by the R. A. club women. Miss Emma Waling and friend William Eaton of Brook visited with the former’s sister Mrs. Arthur Mayhew Sunday. Mrs. Charles Waling and daughter Carrie of Brook are staying a few days with the former’s daughter Mrs. Arthur Mayhew. Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Waling of near Brook visited the latter’s sister Mrs. Arthur Powell Saturday night and Sunday. The telephone boy of Mt. Ayr repaired the 29 line Tuesday morning by putting in a few new poles which were needed very badly. Mrs. Mary Powell and daughter Mrs. Allie Potts, spent Sunday with the former’s daughter Mrs. Fred. Markin near Rensselaer. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Bengston and family were the guests of their daugther Mrs. Earl Leek and husband Wednesday evening.

Sunderland Sunday. Miss Ida Karr and Miss Alba Mooney returned from their Illinois visit Saturday. Judge Hanley and wife and two sons of Rensselaer visited with Wm. Parker’s Sunday. The farmers have had beautiful weather for harvesting, and the most of the oats is cut. Mr. Washburn of Goodland was in town Monday looking after the telephone business. Miss Emma Chandler of Slippery Rock, Penn., is visiting her cousin Marlon Denniston this week. Ed Denniston came home from
Mt. Ayr Wednesday. Come again, Ed, we like to see you in these parts. J. B, Foresman of Brook was over to the farm Saturday to see his sick son and look after the harvesting of the oats crop. J. O. Sunderland and O. B. Light got very work brittle and got out and drove their binders through oats cutting this year. Ed Lowe was in town Monday. One of his best horses died Sunday. Ed has had bad luck, as this makes the fourth one this year. Frank Snow went Sunday night to Christ Naufziger’s to run a binder for him through the harvest. Frank finished cutting his crop Saturday. Miss Ina Sunderland will be one of the teachers in our school the coming term. This will be her first school and we wish her all manner of success. Mrs. Gilmore of Cedar Rapids, lowa, is here visiting her parents and keeping house while her mother, Mrs. Miller, Is at the bedside of her mother in Chicago. The Mt. Ayr ball team trimmed the Brook team Sunday at Brook. The score was 6 to 2 in favor of Mt. Ayr. So Brook’s shut Rut pitcher didn’t work on them. The Goodland and Brook telephone companies have gone into partnership on a line between the two towns and are setting their poles through here this week. People who run automobiles should be more careful. Only the other night an automobile ran against a street car on Main street and caused our main street to be blocked for an hour or so. Automobile drivers are too careless In this place. Some one might have been hurt £he other night, but as it was no serious trouble occurred.
DUNN'VILLE. John Finn was a Rensselaer goer last week. Rachel Cullen is working for Mrs. John Stalbaum. » The White house is receiving a new coat of white paint. Trustee Stalbaum transacted business in Rensselaer Monday. Quite a number of Wheatfielders spent Sunday at’ Dunn's Bridge. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Bush and son William of Baunj’s Bridge, visited in these parts Tuesday. Miss Herwig and John DeArmond attended the ball game at Wheatfield Saturday. Dr. Gobin will assist Elder Wood in the dedication of our new church August 30. attorney Chas. Sands of Rensselaer was a business caller here the first of the week. Ross White called on his lady love near Baum’s Bridge Sunday and went to the river. Miss Rena Vandercar of Knox is spending her vacation with her brother Ben and family. Mrs. Bert Vandercar and Miss Rena visited with the Bush family at Baum’s Bridge Sunday. William Finn of Cincinnati was visiting relatives and friends here and at San Pierre the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schrader and family visited Sunday with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. DeArm odd. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur White and family and Miss Mary Rennewanz of San Pierre and Mrs. Laura Jones visited with the White family Sunday.
MILROY. G. L. Parks was a Rensselaer visitor Tuesday. Be sure to be at Sunday school tomorrow at 10 a. m. Mrs. Mary McCashen and daughter Etta went to Wolcott Monday. Thos. Spencer started to Canada Tuesday on a prospecting trip. Mrs. Geo. Wood and Mrs. W. Johnson were in Monon Wednesday. Several from here attended the band concert at Monon Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. D. Z. Clark and granddaughter Amy are visiting friends near Sidney, Ohio. Dan Williams and wife and Mr. and Mrs. Fenwick came and held church Saturday night and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Spencer attended church at Palestine Sunday evening. Leon Parks spent Saturday night with the Gallaher family and attended the ice cream social at the Baptist church at Palestine. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Chapman took their little daughter to Monon Wednesday again to consult a physician as the little one is in very poor health. Mrs. Belcher will preach on Saturday night, Ang. Ist. All are invited. We also expect Colporter Rev. Holton to be present, so do not miss this treat.

Mrs. Julia Stalbaum and Mrs. Sabria Waymire called on Mrs. Tot Teagarden Monday afternoon. Mrs. Thomas Callaghan and daughters Bessie and Mary visited Sunday with the Wenrick family. Felix Moritz helped Ben Rouse finish putting up his tame hay Monday. Ben has a fine crop of hay. Miss Flossie Darner of Wheatfield spent a few days with her cousins Celia and Bertha Hershman this week. Mr. Washburn of North Judson was through this vicinity Tuesday, taking orders for plctures to be enlarged. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heidenblut spent the first of the week with their daughter, Mrs. Emma Hordeman, of near Parr. Mr. and Mrs. John McElroy were out buggy riding Sunday evening. People ate still waiting for the oil fields to start up again. One of our old settlers, Mrs. Faris, passed away at her home near Medaryville Saturday, the 18th. Interment was made at Medaryville Monday afternoon. Little Mildred Daily met with a very serious accident a few days ago by falling from her go-cart upon a large piece of broken fruit jar, and all but cutting off her nose. Al Reed left for the west a few days ago. He will stop in Illinois for a short time and then go on to North Dakota where he will help Joe Grube with his threshing machine. Mrs. Waymire entertained at her home Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Felix, M oritz. Miss Flossie Darn err Misses Celia and Bertha Hershman and Louie Hershman with ice cream. Was it good, Louie? SAD DEATH. Miss Grace Shepherd, one of our most popular young ladies, died Wednesday, the 16th. and was burled the 18th. She had been ill for several months till late in June her ’parents removed her to her old home near Joliet, hoping a change would be beneficial. But it could not be, the fiat had gone forth and Grace must pass away. She was beloved by all who knew her. She was but 17 years of age and leaves a father and mother, one sister and four brothers, besides other relatives and hosts of friends. We extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family. Tn the cold moist earth we laid her, Where the forest cast the leaf, And we wept that one so lovely Should have a life so brief.”

Mr. Wiseman has been on the sick list for the past two weeks and is not Improving much at this writing. Mrs. Agnes Lee, who has been visiting here for the past week, returned to her home in Roselawn Thursday. , Fronle and Leona Austin, who have been working in Momence for the past month, returned home Thursday. Mrs. Perry Hodge and children of Rochester came Tuesday for a two weeks visit with her father and | other relatives. Miss Flossie Flora and brother of Wisconsin came the first of the week for an extended visit with relatives and friends here. Relatives from Chicago who have been visiting here since the ,4th with Thomas Obyrne and wife, returned home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Clager of Wheatfield were through these parts Sunday, enroute to Blackford where they spent the day with relatives. The ball game played Sunday between the “Mud Splashers” and “Happy Greens” was very well attended, score 1 to 8 in favor of the Mud Splashers.

Alberta Dickinson, who is working for J. D. Washburn, spent Sunday at home. Charlie Smith of Chicago has been a guest of his brother-in-law, Jacob Wagner, since last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Cummons and baby are visiting the latter’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wagner. A new house and barn is being built on John Jordan’s farm, now occupied by John Williamson.
