Captain of Slocum Must Huffier. New York, Feb. 13.—-Captain William H. Van Schaiek, of the excursion steamship General Slocum, which -was burned on June 15, 1904, in East river with a loss of about one thousand lives, must serve ten years In prison, hls sentence having just been affirmed by the United States circuit court of appeals. Van Schaick, who -was convicted of neglect of duty as captain, Is seventy years old. He has been at liberty on ball and hag been married since the conviction.
