An infant child was born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Parker Monday, but lived only a few hours and was buried’Tuesday. 11 Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Nowels have moved here from Flora and will live with his parents, Mr.. Saji Mrs. David Nowels, and look after their welfare. Len Lefler of Pleasant Ridge has decided to give up farming and will engage in the confectionary business at Crawfordsville about Dec. 1. Lyman Barce went to Chicago Tuesday, accompanied by his son Elmore Barce of Fowler, to consult doctors' regarding his rheumatic troubles. Certificates issued by any of the associated banks, as noted elsewhere, will be accepted by any of the Rensselaer tradesmen the same as actual cash. The corner stone of Crown Point’s remodeled court bouse is to be laid to-day and will be the occasion of a great gathering at Lake county’s capital. R. P. Benjamin has bought the second house north from Washington street, on north River street, now occupied by Mr. Dayton, and will move into same. We have a nice grist of items this week from Hanging Grove tp., on our correspondence page, and are assured that the items will be sent in regularly hereafter. Mrs. S. O. Lang and daughter Lennie of Indianapolis left Tuesday for Spokane, Wash., after a few days’ visit here and at Surrey, They expect to spend the winter with her son and daughter in Spokane. •
Clyde Comer has resigned his position as clerk in the Rowles & Parker store and moved to bis mother-in- law’s, Mrs. P. C. Wasson’s, 260 acre farm near Winchester, which he will have the management of. Mrs. A. Oppenheimer of New Orleans, who has been spending the summer with her daughter Mrs. B. 8. Fendig, left Thursday for her aouthern home, being accompanied as far as Chicago by Mr. and Mrs. Fendig. Mt. Ayr item in Kentland Enterprise: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Herath invited in the Woodmen neighbors and thsir wives, of Mt. Ayr camp, for a farewell reception on William Smith, who is moving to Rensselaer. About forty guests were present. Misses Edith and Mary Miller who have been conducting a boarding house at Winona Lake, left Thursday for St. Petersburg, Fla., where they will spend the winter and perhaps engage in the boarding house business in some resort town of that state.
A meeting of the Gifford railroad stockholders was held at Kersey last week and it was decided to go ahead and extend the road north to Gary, some 15 miles from its present terminus, next season in the event it was not sold to the New York Central people, which now seems unlikely. Trustee Davisson of Barkley tp., sold the “Snowflake” school house Tuesday to John W. Poole *of Benton county for $46. Poole also got one outbuilding for $1.25 and Geo. Daniels one for $4.50. A pump and pipe was also sold at the same time, being bid off by the trustee at $4. Poole owns a farm in Barkley and will move the school house thereon. The Bloomington, (Ill.,) Pickle Co., which is operating a successful kraut factory at Newland this season and turning out several thousand barrels of kraut, running both night and day, is talking of putting in a canning factory at Newland for next season if they can get the farmers thereabout to take hold of the proposition in the way of agreeing to raise oom and tomatoes for canning.
