Ambergris.
Ambergris is worth at present £6 ss. an ounce. Last year there was used about £120,000 worth of this peculiar substance in the manufacture of perfumes. It is a fatty substance of an ashy gray color with red or yellow streaks in it and Is found floating on the sea or taken by whale fishers from the carcass of the sperm whale. Much is also picked up on the shores of the i ’i:c \.s. It is generally agreed that j s secreted by the sperm •-••n’e result of a disease.
