SLASHED CAL WITH A KNIFE.

Calvin Cain, formerly of Rensselaer, now running a barber shop and pool room at Lake Village. Newton county, got slashed on the chin with a knife in the hands of a drunken assailant a few days ago, it is reported, receiving a cut which it is said will mark him for life. A couple of fellows who had filled up on Conrad booze came into the place Cal was running and raised a disturbance. One was knocked down with a billiard ball by a bystander, Dr. Davis, but was not put out of business, and on getting up he pulled a knife and made for Cal. The obetrepuons user of the knife has been bound over to the Newton circuit court, while his companion was fined $5 and costs.
