"TALKS OUT IN MEETING.”
The Crown Point Stir, the republican; organ of Lake county, occasionally stumbles onto a little naked truth and hands it out to its readers; Here is what it has to say about the tariff on lumber, etcetera: In and about this territory there are many old time Republicans disgusted with the leaders for not taking the duty off from and lowering ths tariff on many other things, and the party promising to do that at the next Presidential election will come out victorious. The public is getting tired of extravagant prices on everything, which are only helping the combinations and trusts and we look for something to drop the first chance an opportunity is offered, It is possible a change in political affairs will not help matters, but it could hardly be worse. With the rich
senators in office, in both partien and all more or less interested is, the trusts it will be a hard matter to lower the present duties. The duty ought to have been taken from lumber years ago, and no doubt when our trees are all cut but one some party will spring to the front and say they will eave our forests (the one tree) if put in power.
