Mrs. I. M. Washburn is visiting in Anderson. # Earl Duvall hns been laid up this week with the grip. Howard Burr, of Goodland, was in the city on business yesterday. March 9, to Mr. and Mrs. Birton Jenkins, south of town, a daughter. Mrs. I. J. Porter left Thursday for a visit with relatives at Coats, Kan. Win. McCord has moved to Mt. Ayr, where he will tend bar in a saloon. Alf Donnelly returned yesterday from a business trip to Lafayette and Louisville. Mrs. Chas. Porter of Chicago is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Josse Ball expeot to leave next Tuesday for Mitchell, So. Dak., where they will locate. Tom Bissinden expects to leave next month for southwest Missouri, and will probably locate at Joplin. C. D. Nowels of Parsons, Kan., is here, having been called by the serious condition of his aged mother. f®r. Turfler and F. B. Ham have each received their new autos. The former’s is a Ford, and the latter’s a Cadillac.
W. 8. Parks’ sou Lloyd, who was sick with pneumonia, is now improving and will get along all right unless be gets a back-set. Mrs. Bessie Parker has rented her residence property in the southeast part of town to W. R. Shesler, and has moved in with her mother, Mrs. W. S. Coen. Ezra Clouse, mention of whose probable fatal sickness was made in The Democrat last week, died at bis home near Sumner, 111., last week and was buried there. special election in Lake township, Newton county, last week on the proposition of building eight miles of gravel roads, resulted in a vote of 61 for to 23 against. Lost— Wednesday of last week, on the street somewhere between the G. E. Murray store and Forsythe’s grocery, a ten dollar bill. The- Democrat editor was unable to be in the office at all last week, as a result of a severe case of the grip and other complications, and only a part of the time and under difficulties arising from these troubles, this week. Robert Leiler of Wabash, who had been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Murray, and other relatives here, returned home Monday accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Ord Yeoman, who will visit her for a few days. Abbott has purchased the George Newman property in the northeast part of town, consideration $1,200. They will take possession the last of the week. Mr. Newman will leave in a short time for Arizona, for the benefit of his health. Fry of near Montioello, aged 25 years, was struck by lightning and instantly killed Tuesday afternoon while driving home from Montioello with his brother Ed. The team was knocked down and the brother seriously shocked. The unfortunate man’s clothing was literally torn from his body. He leaves a wife and one ohild.
