EXEMPLIFYING A FRATERNAL (?) SPIRIT.

The grossly false and misleading report in the Reusselaer Republican of the article on which Halleck’s latest libel suit against The Democrat man is based, is no more than could be expected from that source. The Democrat has never had anything like fair or honest treatment from its Rensselaer contemporaries, and the distorted and false information given through their columns are only to be expected from the narrowminded editors of those sheets. The article on which this “libel” is based appears in full in another column of to-day’s Democrat, and we want every reader and every newspaper man in this section of the state to read it over carefully and critically that they may see how flimsy the charge of libel is. It is a fair sample of the soore or more of libel suits that have been instituted against ns in the past nine years, and shows the persecution that we have been subjected to from republican quarters. These false and misleading reports, of course, are intended to create a public sentiment against us and would naturally jeopardize our chances of receiving a fair aud impartial trial here. Their zeal in this instance may have overstepped legal bounds.
