J--Alva Simpson, employed at the 'Babcock & Hopkins elevator on the night force, got a bad fall early Saturday morning, caused by one of the rungs of a ladder breaking with him. He fell some thirty feet and landed in a bin of corn. While no bones were broken, he was pretty badly shaken up and at this writing is still unable to resume work. Mrs. Mary A. Thomas died at the home of her brother, Bert Dowell, in the east part of town Monday night, aged 50 years. She bad been in poor health for some time. The funeral was held Wednesday, from the residence, Rev. H. L. Kindig of Trinity M. E church conducting the services and interment made in Weston cemetery. She leaves three sons and two daughters. Brook Reporter: A town may claim that the licensed saloon does not injure it, but the fact of the case is, there is not one thing on earth that injures the town as much as the licensed saloon. The house has been quarantined and it is hoped to stamp out the disease without any further spread/ It seems that the whole family, consisting of the mother and six children. have had tonsilitis and some of them an eruption to some extent —except one child—but they got along very well, and it was only Sunday that the disease appeared in typical form. Health Officer Miller and Dr. Merrill agreed on the diagnosis The disease seems to have been of a rather mild character in the first two typical cases, but two of the later cases have been quite severe.
