W. A. Lock “visited" in Rensselaer Saturday, Sunday and Monday. C. F. Fisher went to Lafayette last week to enter the soldiers’ home. John Y. May has sold his 8o acre farm northwest of town to Fraqfc L. Roberts for $125 per acre. Wm. Geier has sold his interest in the Geier & Rhoades blacksmith shop to his partner, D. H. Rhoades. Rev. Whitney of the Presbyterian church exchanged pulpits Sunday with Rev. Parrett of Rensselaer. A son was born recently to Mr. and M rs. Wilson Bennett of Nevada, Ind., formerly of near Remington. W. N. Bliss, an old-time resident of Remington, died at Huron, So. Dak., recently. He was 66 years of age. A commercial club with some 70 members has been organized here to promote the welfare of Remington. Miss Maggie Meehan has gone to Green Bay, Wis., to spend the winter with her sister, Mrs. Frank O’Connor. Mrs. A. O. Skiff of Chicago, who is spending the winter with her sister, Miss Lizzie Houk of Goodland, visited friends here last week. Hammond Times: Mrs. Eliza Phillipi of Remington, Ind„ is here, the guest of her sister, Mrs. Chas. Kasson, No. 1 Believue piace, for several days. Robert Kain and Miss Lucy Hallihan were married at Emmington, 111, last week, and came here for a few days' visit with the bride’s brother, W. C. Hallihan, and other friends. They will reside at Emmington. Mrs. James Shannon, who has been in poor health for some time, died at her home southwest of town on Tuesday of last week, aged 58 years. The remains were taken back to Fairbury, 111., her old home, for interment. Recent births: Dec. 7, to Mr. and Mrs. F. Cota, a son; Dec 7, to Mr. and Mrs, Milo Julian, a daughter; Dec. 9, to Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Forbes, a son; Dec. 13, to Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ball, southeast ol town, a daughter,

fieboland Henry Dahncke is able to be out after his sick spell. Miss Grace Daugherty visited Miss Day Jordan Saturday and Sunday. Callahan and Richmond will dress and ship about 500 turkeys this week. H. E. Qifford of Kersey was a Newland visitor a couple of days last week, Mrs. L. H. Chapman is very sick at this writing. Dr. Linton is attending her. Bert Ryan and family went to Kokomo Saturday where they will visit relatives for about thirty days. John Richmond and family will move to Pleasant Groye the first of the year, where he has a job working tor C. P. Moody. The C. & I. S. railroad people have a drilling outfit south of here, drilling holes in the rock to see how hard it is, and if it will do for ballast if found O. K. We understand the C. & W. V. will he sold to them, and the trade all depends on the rock.

Fair OaKs Mrs. S. B. Moffitt and children visited grandma Moffitt Sunday, , Matt Karr moved his saw mill onto A. D. Washburn’s place near town last week. Uncle Wm. Hurley and Barney DeWitt’s physical condition is still growing worse. B. F. Ferguson and J, J. Hunt of Rensselaer were in our town Monday on business. Miss F.dith Moffitt visited her aunt, Mrs. loanna Byres, a couple of days this week al Wheatfield. George Brohard moved into Carl Wilson's property Saturday, which was vacated by Cbas. Barker. Walter McConnell has accepted a proposition irom Frank Hart of DeMotie in the hay business and will move this week to Virgie. Miss Mable Sellers returned to her home on the Gaff ranch in Newton Co., last week, after a week’s visit with Bruce Moflfitt's young people, The Gundrum dredge had another streak of bad luck last week, we are informed, as it sprung a leak and went to the bottom of the ditch.
Felix Erwin has had his store room overhauled, which gives him much more room. He has been crowded for a long time with his heavy stock of goods. Joseph Gaines, while on his way back from the far west, stopped off here and stayed all night with his daughter Mrs. Al Helsel, on the Lawler & Thompson ranch near here, last week.. We have been having some pretjy bad roads, the result of the recent rains, but the cold snap of the last few days has changed them so they are quite rough. We got a little snow Monday night. The Christian Endeavor Society is arranging to give an X-mas entertainment. All are invited to come out and have a good time. Four Corners Joe Behles continues in very poor health. Frank Nier is visiting in Owen county this week. L. C. Asher and son Burl are visiting friends in Missouri. Geo. Heebn, Sen., went to Kankakee on business Tuesday. Frank Austin of Momence is visiting with the Jessup family. J. T. Biggs reports theroad trial was dismissed on technicalties. Mrs. E. W. Allen is again able to visit the metroplisof north Jasper. Henry Hunsicker started for the south for a X-mas visit among relatives and old neighbors. The teachers of North Jasper intend to spend their X-mas at their homes on the farm this year.
John T. Biggs is attending court at Monticello as witness on a road case sent irom this county. Geo. Smith is out of repair. He visited the M. D. of Wheatfield for material to put him in running order again. Elwood Davis of Wheatfield, who had all his personal property sold Saturday, intends to move to Oklahoma soon. “Shorty" Mecklin loaded his goods Saturday and started for North Dakota Monday; his family will follow in a few days. Monday night the M. W. A., of Wheatfield elected their officers for the coming term, re-electing A. S. Keen consul, Alex Jensen clerk and G. 0. Stembel, banker. The sun is shining once again and the farmers are putting all their energy in the corn fields. This week will put the corn out of the way and just in time for X-mas and the season of good cheer. Miss Nellie Stalbaum and brother Cleveland, teachers of Kankakee tp., are down with what is reported to be small-pox. The Tefft school and the Vanpatten schools are closed on account of the dread disease. The M. V. Sands case which was sent from Wheatfield to Demotte on change of venue, came to trial Saturday and resulted in a fine of $3 and costs being assessed against the accused. We hear he intends to appeal to the circuit court. It is also reported that the F. 0. department has been notified of the offense.

John Cavinder assisted his son James in moving his household goods down here Tuesday, Miss Ora Knight left for Rensselaer Sunday, where she intends to visit old acquaintances.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Summer* spent Friday with the latter's mother, Mrs. Joe Smith of Kniman. Alf McCoy and daughter and Frank Braddock spent Sunday afternoon with Albert Summers and family. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Peck and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wagner called on Herman Flugal and family Sunday afternoon. Jim Cavinder of Kouts is moving on the Carlson place until bis bouse is vacant, which is occupied by Owen Hurley.

D., is at the bedside of his brother Bert, who is seriously ill. Mr. John Bisber died last Sunday night, after a brief illness, and was buried at j Independence cemetery Tuesday after- | noon. Benson and wife of near Delphi, visited the first of the week, Edward Coleman and bride of Lafayette are spending a few days with his father, Matt Yeager, who has been visiting his sons in Kankakee, 111,, returned home Monday. Mr, and Mrs. Mans Beaver visited Mr. and Mrs, R. Foulks Saturday and Sunday. ® Miss Elsie Kendall gave a Christmas tree entertainment Friday for her pupils at Center school, Z. J. McCashen and wife and D. Z. Clark and daughter Martha spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank May.
