A BOOM FOR HAMMOND.

Hammond is to get another big manufacturing plant, the Standard Steel Car Co., of Butler, Pa., having closed negotiations to build a $5,000,000 plant there. The company .has purchased over 300 acres of land for a site, costing nearly a quarter of a million dollars. The plant will do a businese of over $35,000,000 per year, employ 3,000 men and have a monthly pay roll of $200,000. It will manufacture freight and express cars and it is expected to manufacture all of the $8,000,000 orders for cars now on hand at Hammond. It is predicted this will increase the population of that city 10,000 within a year, and it is certain to be the biggest boomer the town ever had.
