ALL NOW THIMK IT A SWINDLE.
Victims of Alberta Land Deal Have Given Up Hope, and Denounce the “Agents.” It seems to be generally conceded here now that the Alberta land sales made by U. B. Kellogg of Brookston and Charlie Murray of Oklahoma, formerly of Barkley township, this county, were a swindle pure and simple. Many of the 35 or 40 victims here claimed to believe for several days that all would yet turn out right, but they have now given up hope of ever getting the sections of land or their money back. So far as learned, nothing more has been heard of Kellogg and we have learned of no one having heard from Murray as to what he knows of the “company.” Kellogg claimed to represent. A letter from a government official at St. Paul states that no such firm as the Northwestern Land and Imieration Co., nor none of the men who were represented to be connected with such company is known there. A Canadian land company of Winnipeg with a branch office in Chicago, wrote to parties here some weeks ago that they knew of no such firm or scheme and that they believed it to be a frand. Additional victims reported here are: Mrs. Lucy Sample, Ida Murray, Harry Murray, E. G. Warren, Fred Waymire, Mrs. Mattie Grant, Marion Adams and son Ray, one section, Walter Porter, W. C. Milliron, Andrew Kahler, Ed Hopkins.
