The sentiment at the Jackson day banquet last Monday was very much Bryany. Through an error the vote o! Jasper county was omitted from the report of the democratic district meeting at Monon last week, as published in The Democrat. Jasper’s vote was given solid for Mr. Risk, who was elected.
At the meeting of the demo oratic state committee at Indianapolis Monday, W H. O’Brien was re-elected state chairman. Kirby Risk of Lafayette, our new district chairman, was his most formidable opponent, and three ballots were necessary to arrive at a choice Chairman Risk of this district introduced the following resolution, which was unanimously adopted: “Resolved, That the Democratic State Central Committee, of Indiana, this day reorganized, pledges itself to a‘square’ deal for the rank and file of the party throughout the State, and assures the voters in every section, near and remote, from the Committee’s Headquarters, a perfect liberty to meet in their precincts for the purpose of naming candidates and selecting delegates, with the solemn assurance that the State Committee will exercise or Httempt to exercise—no dictation, or, in any way, prevent the fullest expression of the popular will “Resolved, That this committee will, in no sense, and at no time, establish preference as to particular candidates; that it will keep bands off in the matter of nomination, but will, when the ticket is made, do all that fidelity, earnestness and loyal work can do to secure the election—to the end that the Democratic voters of Indiana may feel reuewed interest in the party’s activity, the fullest share in the party’s management, and that the free, fair methods and the triumphant results known in the days of Gray and Voorhees, of McDonald and Hendricks, be the just possession of the people. Be it further. ’’Resolved, That these resolutions be made a part of the State committee records and a copy be sent at once to every Democratic paper in the State of Indiana.”
