Lafayette, Ind,, November 18. — Four new passenger locomotives for the Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville railroad have left the Brooks works of the American Locomotive Company, at Dunkirk, N. Y., and will arrive in this city early next week. The engines are the largest and most modernly equipped ever owned by the Monon, and will be used on the fastest through trains between Chicago and Indianapolis and Chicago and Louisville. Expert engineers from the locomotive works will test the engines at the local shops, when they will be placed in service immediately. The engines are known as the prairie type, and have, great strength and speed. They have three drivers, a trailer and the regular truck wheels on each side. The tank of each has a capacity of 7,000 gallons, and thirteen tons of coal can be carried. The engines will draw the heaviest passenger trains on the Monon road over the steepest grade at a rate of thirty miles an hour.
