AN OUTSIDE OPINION.

Over about Jasper and Newton and Lake counties they have a paper called the Kankakee Valley Review, which is dated as if it were printed at Thayer, Roselawn, Wheatfield and other places, the object being to pretend to be a bonafide publication printed in each of three or four adjoining counties. The scheme was to arrange with certain public officials to send it legal notices required to be printed in these several counties, according to the expose of the Jasper County Democrat, which now announces that Uncle Sam has stepped in to pat a stop to the practice. The Democrat truthfuliy adds: “A person who is operating a questionable game or is trying to do an illegal act, always hates the man who brings him up with a short turn.” Yes, that’s been the Republican’s experience, too. —Winamac Repu blioan.
