Formal announcement of the creation of the new nation of Norway has reached the state department in a report from the United States consul general at Christiania, Norway, transmitting a note from the Norwegian minister for foreign affairs in which the minister asks that the United States be made acquainted “with the contents of the enclosed documents, of which a translation is transmitted.” Tlie documents include the letter to King Oscar and the resolution of dissolution. and other resolutions setting forth the details of the separation of the two countries. No action has yet been taken by this government toward recognizing the new nation, nnd it is understood that Washington will awa t the Initiative of European powers ditectly Interested.
