COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING.
The county board of education met here Monday to file their report on enumeration and elect a truant officer. The democrats now having a majority on the board no republican’s name was presented. Neen Littlefield, of Rensselaer, was the only candidate in evidence, and he was elected unanimously. The following resolution with reference io teachers was adopted: Resolved, That it is the sentiment of the Board that no one under the age of eighteen years be employed as a teacher in the common schools of Jasper county. Resolved, Further, that no one be employed as a teacher in the common schoolsof Jasper county who has not successfully completed at least two years' work in some high school or one year’s work in some college, university or normal. Provided, that these rules do not apply to any one who has already taught one year successfully in the common schoolsof Jasper county. Another resolution adopted was in regard to five Rolls of Honor obtained prior to the 17th year of age, shall entitle holder thereof to a gold star, and that 10 Rolls of Honor obtained consecutively shall entitle holder to a five dollar gold piece, at the expense of the school corporation in which such pupil lives. A resolution to continue the publication of the Jasper County School News was also adopted. Commencement dates and places for holding same were set as follows: Carpenter, June 15, Fountain Park. Gillam. June 20; Medaryville. Hanging Grove, June 10, McCoysburg. jordan, June 24. Kankakee, May 27; Dunnville. Milroy, June 3; Milroy church. Union, June 17; Parr. Wheatfield, June 8; Wheatfield. Dates for other townships have not been set as yet.
