New York. April 27.—1 n a statement issued during the day Starr J. Murphy, of John I). Rockefeller's private counsel, defends the latter in the attacks made upon him by Dr. Washington Gladden, and declares that Dr. Gladden’s statement is untrue and his whole charge of perjury rests upon a garbled report.
