ATTEMPT TO ASSASSINATE

Young: Unknown Tries to Kill Odessa's Chief of Poltee - Saved by Prince Obolensky. St. Petersburg,Sept. 23. —In Odessa, while Chief' of Police Neidgardt, in company with Prince Obolensky, was inspecting sonic new government buildings in the Boulevard Nicholas, a young man wearing a blue blouse fired a revolver from a distance of six paces at Neidgardt. The bullet did not strike the chief of police, and the would-be assassin was about to fire again when he was seized by Prince Obolensky.

The man’sweapon fell to the ground, and a desperate struggle ensued, in the course of which M. Neidgardt was wounded in the hand with a dagger. The assailant was secured and placed in custody. He refusestogive his name or any account of himself.
