LAPORTE MAN CHOSEN

W. W. Preble, A Prominent Attorny Receives Nominatibn at nonon. The democratic congressional convention was held at Monon Tuesday and all counties were represented except Benton and Warren. Mr. Conroy of Porter county was made chairman of the convention, with Mr. Lloyd of of LaPorte, secretary. The following representative democrats were named as committee on resolutions. M. T. Kruger of LaPorte, Mayor Lawrence Becker of Lake, Kirby Risk of Tippecanoe, -Peter Hepp of White, F. E. Babcock of Jasper. The resolutions were terse and to the point, endorsing the state and national platforms and democratic principles. On call for nominations the following names were presented: M. T. Kruger and J. B. Faulkner of Michigan City, Nelson J. Bozarth of Porter. Dan Simms of Tippecanoe and W. W. Preble of LaPorte. Krueger, Faulkner and Simms withdrew, and a ballot resulted in 63 votes for Preble, in 18 for Bozarth and 11 for Simms. Mr. Preble was declared the nominee on motion of Mr. Bozarth, seconded by Simms. W. W. Preble, the nominee, was then called forward and made a few remarks that caused the delegates to feel that a happy choice had been made in the nomination. He is a prominent attorney of the city of Laporte, a gentleman of pleasing address and his popularity,, is attested by the fact that two years ago he was elected to the legislature by 800 majority, running far ahead of his ticket. He is 41 years of age, was born in Marion county, but most of his life has been spent in Laporte. He is a graduate of Ann Arbor and a gentleman in every way worthy to head the democratic ticket in this district. During the campaign he will visit Rensselaer and meet many of our readers, and will, no doubt, deliver a few speeches in this county. Be sure and come to the Fall Festival, and when you come, come in and shake, we will be glad to see you. John Eger.
