CITY COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS.
Dr. E, C. Enrluh 'Elected Member of -School Board to Succood T. J. McCoy. Other Matter*. The city council met in regular session Monday evening with all members present. The most important businoss transacted was* the election of a sohool trustee to succeed T. J. McCoy, whose resignation was at band. There were two candidates, Dr. E. C. English and Granville Moody. Eaoh reoeived three votes and Mayor Ellis oast the deciding vote in favor of Mr. English. The city treasnrer’s report for the month ending June 30th showed the following amounts on hand: Corporation fund, $258.81; electric light, $491.67; electric light improvement, $1029,84; road, $463,98; water, $1069.60. There are warrants oatstanding and not p&id for want of funds to the following amounts: road fond, $104.97; corporation, $1965 27; eleotrio light, $764.06.
The city attorney was instructed to notify the property owners affected to repair the sidewalk on South street leading to the cemetery on penalty of having a cement walk ordered in. The city marshal was instructed to remove certain dead trees at Milroy Park. Dr. Besser, of Remington, was present with an ordinance asking for a franchise to operate a toll station here to connect with the Remington station. A franchise of ten years is asked for. The matter was referred to the ordinance 00mmitte. The cemetery trustee reported the sale of two lots, one to John Smith and one to A, C. Abbott at SSO each. The oity commissioners made reports on the Van Rensselaer and Vine and Milton street sewers. They will meet August let to make final assessments. An ordinance was introduced governing Weston cemetery. Referred to ordinance committee. The city commissioners filed their report on the Division and Soott street sewer. The oounoil will meet in special session next Monday evening to act on the report. The light committee presented a minority and majority report on theproposition to reduce the salary of the light superintendent from SIOO to SBS per month and the other employes from S6O to $55 per month. Carmichael favored the reduction and Spitler and Brown were against it. The ceuno;l adopted the majority report and the salaries will remain as they are at present. '
