DEATH OF MICHAEL EGER.
V Michael Eger died at his home oh North Van Rensselaer street last Saturday at 5 p. m., after an extended sickness, aged 78 years, 9 months and 3 days. Mr. Eger was born in Wittenburg, Germany, and came to America in 1848, locating in Lafayette, where two years later he was married to Miss Louise Mertz, who with 6ix children—Mary, Wm. H., John, Carrie and Lizzie Eger, of Rensselaer, and Mrs. Emma Maloy, of Lowell —survive him. He located in Rensselaer in 1853, and has lived here continuously since, nearly all of this time on the place where started a cabinet and furniture store on locating here, and for many years worked at carpentering and building. He was an exemplary citizen and raised up a family of good citizens. John and William Eger, the two sons, have been prominent merchants here for many years, and the former was Rensselaer’s second city mayor. The funeral was held Monday from the residence of John Eger, the services being conducted by Rev. H. L. Kindig, of the M. E. church, and was largely attended. Interment was made in Weston cemetery. Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were: August Stocker, Mrs. John Schnaible and Barney Spitznagle, of Lafayette. Mr. Stocker is proprietor of the Lahr House in that city, and with Mrs. Schnaible is a cousin of Mrs. Eger’s.
