FOR THE HOUSEWIFE

A Kitchen Calendar, The kitchen calendar has flist atw* foremost a menu for every day to th*? month, and this alone will rewoar* a tremendous burden from the ftousekeeper, always burdened by tl*r problem of “What shall I get for dtonerT*’ Of course these menus need not be-oseffi In their entirety. They simply ftirnlslp suggestions, stimulus to lagging, inventiveness. No business man trie* to carry the plan of his business day “In his head,” but relies on memorandfu Why should not the housewife do likewise? Then the kitchen calendar has * list of needfuls for the household, soap* and mustard and candles and flour, «te.» a complete grocery list. When Satarday comes and the weekly replenishing of stores must be made, the busy housewife need not cudgel her brains hob bein perpetual fear of forgetting something. She simply runs over bee list and notes shortages in supplies of tbe? various items. In a home where there? is a kitchen calendar the discovery vrflT. never be made on a Sunday morning that there are no matches or that tbe? cook forgot to order sugar. Yet another good point of this useful calendar Is Its time table for cooking. You can see at a glance how long to bake sponge cake or how many minutes to the pound should be allowed for the roasting of beef. Philadelphia Ledger.

I'zea of Borax Water. Borax water is a good thing to havw about the wasbstand. It is easily made. Pour a pint of boiling water over six tablespoonfuls of powdered or crystallized lK>rax and let it get cold; then strain and bottle. The water will take just about this amount of borax, this being a saturated solution. Keep well corked so no dirt can enter. When washing in hard water, add a spoonful of this solution, and the water will be smooth and pleasant, besides helping the little sore in inflamed places which* are so apt to come on hands when db*ing housework. Pour some on yotur toothbrush, and it will help whiten the? teeth. If the teeth are bad or the; mouth sore or “bad tasting,” a teaspoonful of borax water diluted with: twice as much water makes a healing, and sweetening mouth wash. A New Floor Scrubber. Hunting for a way to supersede thto antiquated method of scrubbing floors* a young Texan has invented the apparatus shown in the illustration. EDs principal claim for it is that It eliminates the necessity of the worthy char-

woman falling upon her knees beslcteher bucket of water and soap and wearying her hands out In completing herr task. An upright post with a lever, to thc> lower end of w'hlch is attached a rod holding the scrubbing brush, complete* a very simple but effective apparatus. Water being thrown upon the floor, the machine is moved from point to pointy while the operator industriously works*, the lever back and forth.
