Au anti-cigarette league has been organized at Brook, also a J. Frank Hanley olnb, and a Roosevelt club. There will evidently be “something doing” in Brook. The agony for the numerous republican candidates for county office will soon be over. The county convention will be held one week from Monday, or March 21. White Post township, Pulaski county, voted in favor of twelve miles of new gravel road last Tuesday by 97 majority, while Salem township voted the same way Saturday on about the same number of miles, by 47 majority. Pulaski and Starke county are leaving Jasper far in th® rear in the matter of good roads. And now another negro has been lynched in that grand old republican state of Onio, and it v was merely for killing a policeman, too. No murdered and outraged young girl, wife or mother in this case for “mitigating circumstances,” just the shooting of a plain, everyday policeman. Even in the “benighted democratic states” of the south the negro is lynched for but the one crime. It is about time the republican press of the north devote a little more attention to the beam in the northern eye, don’t you think?
