The evening was spent m games that didn't lark for physical exercise, and at ten o’clock the several visitors went home leaving a pleasant evening behind.

Our teacher, Mr. Hamtnerton, spent Sund.tv in Fair Oaks. We wonder what fair lady he went to see? Charley Bessie will move On the Harrison Warren place, which was vacated by Baths Mayhen. Mr. Mavhen moved to Illinois.

Davidson of Goodland, was a caller here the first of the week. Charley Mallatt and family are visiting at his father's place this week. Mrs. Sbein and family of Lafayette, are visiting her parents, Ike Right's, this

i Our rural mail carrier had a holiday Monday, it being Washington’shirthday Ed Kesler’s baby is quite poorly with lung fever, but is some better at this writing. Katie Nelson went to Wheatfield Tuesday eve to see her sister, Mrs. Sam Ritchey. O. O. Hammerton of Rensselaer, was a guest of Miss Katie Nelson’s, at Dora Cottinphain's, Sunday. Grandma Cox came up from Rensselaer the first if the week to stay a while with her son Janies and family, -* Mr. and Mrs. Leander Kesler, who have Peen iri Ohio the past two or three months visiting, returned home Thursday eve.

Lee. Moving seems to b.e the order of the day. Fred Rishimg is moving to “South America," There was baptizing at the M. E. church last Sunday. Mrs. Lute Jacks spent Friday with her sister, Mrs. S. L. Johnson. Mrs. Daisy Creel went to nurse her sick sister, Mrs. A. Hanna. Mrs. Malon Lamport called on Mrs. Charles Pape Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Malon Lamport gave a farewell party for the Misses Carrothers. The Misses Iva and Merl Cairothers are going to Kentland to work this summer. Fred Rishling’s gave a farewell dance last Saturday night, but forgot to have a fiddler until too late to get one. Hello, S. A.! You get out of your boundary line in your items occasionally and get a good many Lee items in. Lee is not in South America. It is in White county-while South America is in Jasper.

Mr. Peck was here Monday on business. Geo. Rice has bought Mr. Marker’s store. Elbert Antrim was on the sick list Tuesday. Geo. Stalbaum did business at Retisse laer last Saturday. Miss Anna Linton kpent Saturday j night with Mrs. Darner. Jim Linton from east of Rensselaer, was visiting his brother here last Won-, day. Mr. Marker and faintly started back to their old home in the east last M6u day. Jiitt, Davis moved north of San Pierre Monday. Mr. Daley moved in the house "here as soon as he left. The refinery men are repairing their machinery so that they can start to running as soon as it is warm enough for the oil to run through their lead hues. There were three gentlemen here Monday from Illinois, looking for a place to start a blacksmith shop, They r uted a house from Mr, House, and are going to put up their shop just back of Rice’s store.

JVebviand. flunk Archer will move to Gifford this week. Geo. Beedy was a Newland visitor one day last week. Win. White of Stoutsburg was here on business Monday, James Ricks will move on a farm near Francesville next week. Miss Minnie Hemphill spent Sunday with her parents at Rensselaer. Francis Hullihan returned home Saturday from his trip to Fountain Lo. J. N. Baker went to Starke Co., Saturday to look after his farm near Knox. Mr. Stailbaum, general men-hant oi Asphaltum, was here on business Friday. Herman Ahlers and Mary Ahlers of Earl Bark, are visiting T. M. Callahan and family this week. Lawn Watson has rented a farm here and is moving thereon this week. He has been working iu Rensselaer tor the past year. , Herman Ahlers received a telegram Monday morning stating that his uncle had been killed at Earl Bark Sunday. We did not learn the particulars.

Dunrvdille. D. V. has no peers, Alex Hughes is on the sick list, Mrs. Timmons is again on the sick list. Miss Annie Rasmussen is on the sick list. Peck Mites was a business caller at Kankakee City, last week. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Tresemer is seriously sick with pneumonia. Mrs. Treichel, who has been tick tor the past few days, is about again.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ferrei visited Henrv Floars and family last Monday. Mrs. Henrv Herath, who has been sick for the past few weeks, is still quite low. The Misses Leona and Mary Finn, who were quite sick with lagrippe, are better. L The public sale at tbe McCullough residence was well attended. Cows sold for $36, horses for $125. Mr. White, foreman of the Barnard ranch, is getting out a log yard. He has a force of four men at work. Quite a few of the gentlemen friends of Henry Floars called on him last Monday evening and helped him celebrate his birthday anniversary. Lee Fisher, D. V’s. professor, is making a quadruple alliance with the Odd Fellows goat. Lee is very glad that the goat is no healthier than he is. Auditor Newhouse was entertained by Mr Whiti, the senior member of the Grail* Co., at his South Bend residence a few days ago. Jim said he had to back down at the introduction of tbe fourteenth course.

Why don’t the farmers of Kankakee tp , organize a formers institute and hold monthly meetings? By so doing ihey would advance the cause of agriculture by mutual exchange of ideas. \\ illiam Jeffries, I). V’s. good-natured son who has been working in a coal mine in the central part of the state for the past year, arrived a few days ago on a visiting tout. He wishes to say hello, to all his friends. L. H. Hamilton, Co. Supt., and editor, visited schools in this township the latter part of last week. He was well pleased with the showing ol the teachers of the various schools. In his tour of Kankakee he was accompanied by trustee Maloney. * • August Klanska, who has lived here for the past few years, is going to move on a f irm close to the Illinois state line We are sorry to lose Mr. Klanska and family from onr township. During his stay here he has made numerous friends who are sorry to see him go. Wherever he goes, we wish him all the success possible. Prof X. Lemon of Tokio, gave a scenic and vocal display at the Treichel restaurant Tuesday evening, in the interest of science. It is thought that he is an envoy of Emperor of Japan, to work up enthusiasm in the U. S. At one time during the exhibition the audience would have arose enmasse and went out bear hunting if it had been necessary. We received a letter from W. W. Hinshaw, one of Kankakee's ex-asses-sors, now located at Arvada, Wvoming, in which he speaks in glowing' s: terms of the possibilities of Wyoming. He states that he and two of his sons, Winfred and Milton, own a farm of 48b acres tin which is located a coal mine which furnishes abundant fuel. He would be glad to hear from his Jasper Co., friends.

Dan Chatman did business in Rensselaer Saturday. Mac Bariow spent Sunday with the McDonald family. Mary and Thomas McDonald were in McCoysburg Saturday. Frank Cox of Kentland spent Sunday with So. America friends. We are rather expecting to hear from Blue Sea next week or this. Dan Chatman and Jim Woods were in McCoysburg Saturday afternoon. Nothing going on in S. A. No news. We wish something would happen. Miss Etta and Mr, Chas. McCasben spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Clark. Messrs Albert Wood and George Foulks attended Heuson’s sale, near Sharon, Tuesday. ‘ Frank Leech of Virgie spent Sunday with Miss Daisy Crister but it is now Mrs. Daisy Leech We wonder if the Kniman cor. has forgotten a certain excursion to St. Joe about a year ago? Mr. and Mrs. Henry Beaver entertained a number of young people last Friday evening. A very pleasant time was reported.

The Queen City and Banner schools speut Sunday afternoon with the Center school. An excellent program in honor of Washington afid Lowell’s birthdays was given, all schools taking part. Several visitors also were present. Poor Martin, poor boy! No one can realize how we feel fur him. We have not learned all as yet about bis lonely drive home, but for fear he is in any doubt about us, we want to say that we did not have to walk quite all the way home. Some people certainly have a whole lot to Irarn. We are now thinking of ourselves, of course, and no one else

Dunns. Spring is coining, Clyde Herath is sick with a severe attack of tonsilitis at this writing. Mrs. Pfiel and son Earl, are improving quite rapidly at this writing. Fred Keliertnan of Porter Co., is moving near No. Judson, where he has purchase.' a farm. Henry Pfiel is pressing his hay this week with the assistance of Marion ■sands and his new “Eli” hay press. Jesse Wilmington has rented the Henry Amsler farm for the coming season and is moving thereon at this ingMrs Marv Lewark of Kniman, visited with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Hand Nelson of this place a few days this week.

Jim Cooper of south of Wheatfield, has rented the Powers form where Wilmington’s vacated, and is moving thereon this week. • Mrs Henry Herath is quite sick and has been for a couple of weeks with erysiplas. Dr. Solt of San Pierre is the attending phvsjcian. Henry Herath had a serious accident the other day by getting his fingers caught under a log while skiding logs on his farm, and crushed one of his fingers off. Arthur While says that he is not going to rent ot Powers another season but he don’t state to the public where he is going; so we don’t know anything about his business. F. W. Powers was out from Lafayette attending to his farm interests Tuesday and giving his tenants notices to vacate, as he is changirg renters on several of his farms this season. Morris McCullough and family and Henry Cofifi . and family are going to move to Antigo, Wis., about the first of April. They had a public sale Feb. 24, and Morris is living with Coffin until their departure.

Blue Sea Hello! ."south America. Harry Cage spent Sunday with Will Yeager. Mrs John Sommers was in Rensselaer Saturday. Mr. Gather will move on the Smith place next week. >. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Beaver were in Rensselaer Saturday. I he sale at Mr. Murray’s last Wednesday was well attended. Mart and Charles’ Sommers hauled corn to Woicott Friday. The dance at Mr. Beaver’s last Fridey night was well attended. Mrs. Sommers and son Frank did business in Wolcott Friday. Mrs Charles Sommers spent Sunday with friends and relatives in Lee. George Beaver has moved into the house where Dennis-Caston lived. Mr. -truth and family left for their new home in Missouri last Wednesday. Jake and Mance Beaver attended the da/ice at Mr. Waymire’s Saturday night. Manse says he has heard from the orphan and she is still among the living. William Yeager of Kankakee is visiting with bis sister, Mrs. James Blakemore.

John Ton has sold his farm west of Milruy church and wiil move back to Howard Co. Misses Vesta and Elsie Beaver spent Saturday atternoon with their brother, Lewis Beaver. South America, in next week’s items will you tell us if Frank McCarthy ever comes out east? Born, Feb. 20, to Mr. and Mrs. James Blakemore, a son. Jim is one of the happiest men around here. William Goodnight says he has quit trading horses for fun. Suppose he is going to trade for what is in it now. Miss Manda Funk was seen going to church the other night; some people thought she had a lantern in the buggv, but come to find out it was her escort's red bead. Martin says if it hadn’t been for Albert Woods, some one would have walked home the oth-r night. Albert is quite an accomod .ting fellow and always on hand when needed. Well, S. A., we didn't know you knew a Beaver was such a cunning creature, but after studying one as long as you have studied Jim, maybe you would find out he is quite cununing. We will all remember reading some time ago in the S. A. items that Albert loved the “Lily” most. It was surely a mistake, as we heard him remark the other day that he loved M more than anyone else.

Pettet called on Joseph Sellers Saturday. t Rev. E. Tavlor and wife were Rensselaer callers Wednesday. Mrs. John Holser is suffering from a severe attack of neuralgia. Cyril Steele and family visited Grant Grant Davisson’s of Aix, Sunday. Geo. J. Nichols has been purchasing some very fine swine. Call and see them. Miss Rosa Johnson entertained a number of her friends at a party Thursday evening. A surprise party w*s given in honor of Earl Graham Tuesday eve. All report a fine time. The teachers of Walk-r township held their last institute tor this year at WalKei C'-qrr, Saturday. Mrs. Geo, Laherge of Valparaiso, is visiting her parents, Mr, and Mrs. O. Wallace, at this wniing. Mis* Anna Jasperson amended the party given in honor of Clarence Gulbranson’s nineteenth birthday, Saturday eve.

Judy, Bert Stewart and Prof. Drake, president of the La f ayette Bust ness College, were in Parr the first part of the week trying to effect a settlement between Judv and Wood, who are dissolving partnership. Everything was found in good condition and a settlement was easily attained. I presume the firm name will be W. L. Wood, hereafter. The Township Institute convened . for the last time this school year with all the teachers present except Miss Tucker, who is down sick. Every one came chock full of Ivaohpe and Lincoln. The forenoon was spent in discussing the characters of 'hat great book, Iv.anhoe. At noon they fed 011 the necessaries of life, amt in the afternoon fed on the good things of Lincoln and the Russian and Japanese war.

Misses Rosa and May Clark of Wheatfield Center, did shopping here Tuesday. Mrs. Vlary Thompson of Ottawa, 111., spent the Sabbath with Mrs. Phillips and children. Miss Floa Funk spent Saturday and Sunday with the Misses Clark of Wheatfield Center. Grandma Dunn went to Medaryvilie Monday to see her son Bert, who was I taken Friday to a Lafayette hospital to undergo an operation.

William Clark of Medarvville. is vtsittng Jacob Clark and family, who live’ about 2# miles north of town. Miss Nettie Prust visited the first of the with her sister Minnie and Mrs. Charles Yeagiey at LaCrosse. The high school was closed the first of the week. Mr. Blue, the teacher, attended the trial of Phillips vs. Meyers at Rensselaer. - 1 Mrs.Kosky of Medaryville, who attended the golden wedding of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Zimmer, who live 3 miles south of town *. fortnight since, aud who has been visiting friends and relatives since, went to Oklahoma City, O. T., to join her husband who is buildmg a residence which will be their future home.

Harrington visaed teacher's township institu e Saturday. J. C. McColly went to Wheatfield Tuesday evening to consult a doctor. Frank McCurtam and Estel Price made a short«call at our burg Sunday. J. Reeder has moved into the new house lately built on J. W. Williams farm, McCurtain has been fasting for four days on account of a badly swelled throat. “Happy,” aren’t you afraid it is quite early to part with that wind-break you lost Sunday. Thomas Florence has moved on hi* farm south of here, from which Mr. Reeder moved, Garfield Swartz returned to 111., where he has been working alter a week’s visit with bis parents. Some who were present, report a fine time at tbe farewell ball at James Cox.s Monday evening. Chas. Swartz has been doctoring the town pump, and when last seen was going south with a pail of water. James Cox has moved from tbe Kight farm near Moffitt’s Switch to one of 8. P. Thompson's farms, formerly occupied by Otto Steel. Paul Weiss attended a sale five miles south of Rensselaer, Wednesday and returned with a handsome coach horse. Coach comes next, then what? Some thoughtless person did some damage to some of the 5. hoot property while at Sunday school Sunday. 1; would be a wise thing if they could be justly reminded of it.
