SMALLPOX EPIDEMIC SPREADS

Bloomington, 111., Feb. 4.—Radical' action was taken by the town council t and school board of Normal relative to the smallpox epidemic, when it vraadecided to close not only the schools, but the churches and all places for public gatherings. Tin* number of cases of smallpox have been steadily increasing, despite the activity of four quarantine officers. Nothing has been done about closing the state normal university. All cases of smallpox are of a mild type, and there have been no deaths. The action taken prohibits all public meetings. social clubs, coasting on the hills by the children, and congregating on the streets.
